The Nijimura Siblings Pt. 4: The Truth

"Your parents are dying?" asked (Y/N), attempting to process the information.

"Yes" exclaimed an irritated Kaden, "Do I need to spell it out for you?"

"No," said (Y/N) remaining on the defensive, "I'm just surprised, but still what would they say if they saw you now, huh? I bet they would be disappointed in you"

Kaden leaned on the arch of the doorway for support. "It's I either I let them die, or I lock myself in a custody battle with a foster home for my siblings"

"Under the circumstances, I'd say foster care would be better than this crap heap," (Y/N) said while he angrily kicked the wall. "How did you get even get into this anyway?"

Kaden sighed and closed his eyes, a look of reminiscing on his face."It all started last year..."

...17 Months Earlier...

Kaden was in a hospital room, standing next to his father's bed. The heart monitor's beeping gave the man a sense of dread, knowing that any moment it could stop, and his father would die. At his mother's bedside were a 16-year-old Kaylee and a 17-year-old Odis. They were crying silently so as to not attract attention from the doctors. 

His mother and father had collapsed the day before and had been bedridden in the hospital since. After they were hospitalized, the doctors were unable to diagnose the illness, saying it was unlike anything they'd ever seen before. The parent's bodily functions had begun to fail and their skin became hard like a rock. Medical equipment was the only thing keeping them alive. Kaden had even dropped out of school in order to look after his siblings.

Kaden was a student at the United States Military Academy, even slated to be at the top of his class and to be shipped overseas as early as after graduation which was only a few weeks away. However, the day before his finals, he received a letter from and Kaylee. The letter read...

Dear Kaden

We really don't know how to put this, except for that it's really bad. Mom and Dad collapsed while me and Odis were getting ready for school. We called the hospital immediately and the doctors say they don't know what's wrong with them. But mom and dad have been acting weird lately, they've been forgetting everything as of late, like where they parked the car, the number of groceries in the fridge, even me and Odis' names. Kaden, please come home soon.

Kaylee

Kaden immediately packed up everything and left before taking a single test. The school board was very upset with Kaden's sudden departure and docked him from taking the tests till next year. However, once seeing the state his parents were in, Kaden decided to drop everything to be the man of his family. He sent a letter to the school stating that he wasn't coming back and that they would likely never see him again. Kaden would wait for a response for three weeks before realizing that his chances of a military career were finished.

Kaden and his siblings would alternate the days they would stay with their parents. First Kaylee, then Odis, then Kaden, and then back to Kaylee. Where they would go up to the third floor of the hospital, to room 415, currently occupied by Rina and Mansaku Nijimura, also known as Kaylee, Odis, and Kaden's parents. Three months of the same cycle over and over and Kaden was close to losing it. He had little money left to pay the bills with and his siblings had just dropped out of school in order to help him raise money for the research to help their parents.
