~Gassy's POV~
"I don't understand, why are you so worried? Ohm is the best out there, he'll be fine," the clueless sergeant comments bit I completely ignore him and continue with my pacing around like a mad man. Just because he's one of the best around doesn't necessarily mean he's completely safe from any sort of harm that may come to him. Even worse, he just witnessed the deaths of his entire group and although he wasn't there with them and it was not his fault at all, even I would be feeling at least a bit of guilt. When the entire crew tells you that you're really good at your job as well, it puts a lot of pressure on you and likely gives you an impression that you should protect everyone around you. Plus, his voice over the radio... I may not be able to tell his feelings from face to face with the blindfold but it only heightened my sensitivity to his voice and the emotion in his voice. He's definitely in some sort of weird state right now and he's all alone right now with all of those dead bodies... My pacing around even quickens and the sergeant who had spoken to me just sighs and walks away. I can't help it, I'm worried sick over the guy I had called my second in charge. If anything were to happen to him, I would hardly know how to run the base.
Basically, Ohm's position in the base is pretty vital to the entire running of the base.
"Sergeant, how close are we to area clearing 81a?" I call out to the sergeant who has been taking track of our location. The sergeant looks at me for a long time as if judging whether to tell me or not. Of course, captains orders are the more powerful thing in the end. The sergeant shifts around and pulls out the map out of his pocket, presenting it out to me. Taking the piece of paper I quickly fold it outwards, aware of the multiple set of eyes watching my every move. These are my troops, they know I've been known for making rash moves as much as I try not to but it usually ends up fine in the end. Another rash move isn't very favorable in my eyes especially in such a dangerous mission but I feel as if I have no choice, I'm worried sick and have to make sure he's fine. Slowly I slide my finger down the map and find the last mark at the pathway 73. Now I look around for the clearing and find its not too far off, not on the other side of the same mines far like I was expecting considering we took opposite entrances. I glance over the pathways and the single clearing between us and after standing here and just staring at it for a couple of minutes, I pull out my map and mark the way in between us both. The sergeant who had given me the map immediately stands up when he sees what I'm doing and grabs a hold of my arm where I was holding the pen.
"Captain, no. The troops are not ready for moving again, we just got a single break and we're all exhausted now," the sergeant explains with a concerned expression. I look away from the man towards the other sergeants, all sitting around on the floor and talking calmly but even when they seem pretty chill right now, the looks in their eyes say that they could be sleeping right now in an instant. No matter how you look at it, these soldiers and my friends are not prepared to go out traveling even more. I wonder if I'm is this exhausted as well. Hopefully he gave himself a couple of breaks when traveling but knowing him he'll just keep going. Although part of that is my fault for pushing him so hard all of the time. My own worry is just increasing as I spend time here doing nothing, I'm hardly of use.
"Fine, I'll go scouting him out and you'll be in charge of the radio calls and such," I order, latching off the radio off of my belt and hand it to the shocked and very reluctant soldier. He stumbles away and opens his mouth but I ignore him and step away from him and look towards the other sergeants, tossing my watch towards one of them. "You hold the alarm watch, you lead the group," I order the different sergeants who all just stare at me with wide eyes while others with highly disapproving eyes I completely ignore. All of these guys are so straight laced militants they're hardly any fun at times.
