"Good morning," I felt someone brush my hair from my face behind my ear.I cracked open my eyes, which felt really crusty.
I can't believe I'm letting him see me like this. I cursed under my breath.
He frowned, "Is everything okay?" How dare he look decent? Why does he not have eye boggers too?
Huh? So God really does have favorites.
"No, no. Everything is fine." I noticed the time, 12:48pm and remembered something. I got up abruptly. "Shit! My dad's going to kill me!" I facepalmed, wincing at the force.
"I need to go home now. I promised to give him back the car at nine am! I got out of the bed, stumbling on my feet as I looked for my phone.
"It's by the dresser," I heard Easy say. He too had gotten out of bed.
14 missed calls.
The most recent call was from my dad.
The contact under which the rest were from caused a painful squeeze in my heart.
Peyton.
I deleted the notifications and took a deep breath.
I immediately called my dad. "Hey, dad." I tried to make my voice sound up beat.
"Hey, Puanani. Mind explaining to me why I still don't have a car at 12:50 pm?" He chuckled.
"I'm so sorry dad, I-I overslept. Pe-Peyton and I slept late." I lied.
"I surmised so, it's alright. How long do you think it will take you to get here? Your mom is chewing me out, she wants me to go grocery shopping so I kinda need the car for that."
"Just send me the list and I'll get them for you on my way home. I still have your credit card."
"I'm not even going to ask how you got that. Thank you for the offer. See you later, your uncle is here. Might as well go golfing now that I have time. Bye sweetheart!"
"I love you dad!"
Please say it back.
He hung up.
I slipped the phone into my jean pockets. I still can't believe that I slept in the coarse material.
"Mind if I accompany you?" I heard Easy say from behind me. I'd almost forgotten that he was there.
I really wanted to say no but perhaps being alone wasn't the best thing to do right now. I nodded my head in response.
"Do you mind if we grab breakfast first, brunch actually. I'm quite famished"
"Yeah, sure."
We got out of the room and went to the kitchen. I wanted to eat out but he insisted that we grabbed something from his house, saying something about it being cheaper.
I sat by the island as I watched him get out an apron. When he said that we could grab something from his kitchen, I didn't think he was going to cook.
"You can cook?"
"I'm a college student and I live alone, had to learn if I didn't want to continue eating takeaway." He lightly chuckled.
We engaged in a light conversation about college life and how I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for university. I loved computers and all, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to make that my career. I wanted to take a gap year and travel around the world. See new sites and get away from everything before I became an adult.
