"When life gives you lemons, ask for water and sugar too from the manager. Otherwise, your lemonade is gonna suck
~ Wise Karen"I was being followed.
I hastened my pace without looking back and took a random turn so that they wouldn't follow me home. But when I heard them hoot at me, I broke into sprint. As I ran faster, the driver increased their speed to match mine.
I was about to turn again in hopes to lose them when they overtook me and abruptly parked in my direction of motion. I reacted slowly and slammed into the car's passenger door, consequently stumbling onto my rear end with a thud.
"Ouch!"
"Oh no!" I heard a masculine voice say. A door opened and a second later, a figure loomed above me.
I felt dumb. It was Easy. I looked closely at the car, I could now see it clearly under the lamppost without all the adrenaline that was spiking up my vision.
"Need a hand?" He held out a strong calloused hand to me but I slapped it away and tried to stand up by myself.
Keyword being 'tried.'
Pain shot up from my knee. I clutched it and squeezed my eyes closed. I didn't like pain.
Easy wrapped a hand around my arm and hoisted me up, allowing me to lean my weight onto him so that I wouldn't strain my knee. He placed me gently onto the passenger seat and made his way around the car and started the engine.
For the most part, it was a quiet ride. I was shocked that he was first to start the conversation.
"So, I guess we are even, huh?" he said.
I scoffed, "Ha! Not even close, this has pushed me back to square one." I closed my eyes trying to concentrate on anything other than the pain in my knee.
Maybe I deserved it.
Especially, after what I did to Coal.
Bit- what kind of dope are you on!
That dog is evil!
"I did not mean for any of that to happen, I simply wanted to offer you a ride home," he said.
"Didn't your mom teach you not to chase a girl at night in a car with your headlights off?"
"No she didn't," he said calmly but something was off. Did he just use a contraction? I was about to ask and I think he noticed too because he immediately cut me off, "I just never expected you to react that way."
"What can I say, I'm unpredictable." I decided to change the direction of the conversation.
"True." The conversation died there. I just looked at the window, seemingly entertaining myself by watching the changing scenery.
