A/n: this is more a soft angst since I'm a bit brain dead and in the dumps, but this was a request and I added both the options together :)

"Levi, we need you to step inside..."
He didn't like that tone- no, he dreaded it. He knew it as well as he knew the back of his hand, and he did not like it; he never had. He already felt his heart shatter like a young girls mirror when she couldn't bare to look herself in the eye anymore- a mind numbing pain that would always haunt him- he already felt it and yet he did not show it, as he never had.
This was supposed to be one of the happiest days of his life, where he would welcome his own child into the world- but now he knew, he just knew that he was going to have to say goodbye to one he loved dearly. Did he know who? Of course not, but that mattered little to him- he knew he was going to lose someone again.
He wasted no time in following the cadet to the infirmary, trying to keep his mind from racing as he caught sight of Hanji holding your hand tightly, a newborn nestled into your chest, held weakly in place by your arm. Levi felt his heart swell his pride and sorrow, now understanding what was happening without needing to ask- the look Hanji gave was enough.
He slowly stepped over to you, taking a chair and sitting beside you as you weakly turned your head towards him, a faint smile on lips and a loving look in your eyes. His hand in yours, gently stroking it with his thumb as he held your hand to his lips. A weak yet happy chuckle, he leant forwards and planted a soft kiss on your forehead.
"I'm sorry, Levi..." your voice was a faint whisper, and he relished in every moment he had left of hearing your voice, the thing that had calmed him so many times. He laughed at his emotions, the pain and tears that welled up in his eyes.
"Don't be, I understand." His hand cupped your cheek, letting you nuzzle it for comfort. Your hand covered his as it remained on your face, giving him a pained smile. "Just know that I love you dearly."
You exhaled, content and calm- slowly rubbing his hand.
He didn't even know how much time passed; it could have been minutes or even hours- it mattered little to him. But when he felt your hand stop, it's as if time stopped. He felt Hanjis hand on his shoulder, flinching at the contact but tear his gaze off your peaceful face.
He was numb, so overtaken by grief that his mind stopped racing- it just went silent. He felt not the tear that ran down his cheek, and he barely noticing his body begin to shake as he choked back a sob. He never reacted like this- he was always stone cold even when faced with death, but you broke all his habits.
His sobs were broken and uncontrolled, desperately holding onto your hand as he doubled over.
Hanji sighed, wiping her own tears as she picked up your sleeping baby, cradling her in her arm as she gripped Levi with her spare, pulling his attention towards her. His eyes shook, and she could see right through his mind as he looked at her then back down to his child.
Hanji carefully handed him his daughter, whom he held close to him, kissing the babies head as silent tears continued to flow as he rocked back and forth. He was afraid to let go of her, and each time he looked at her sleeping face, he held back a pained sob.
He lost you, and apart of himself went with you. He was alone once more- but this time it was different. Apart of both of you still remained, and now he had to step into the position of fatherhood. He knew you loved him, he knew that you would keep watch over him, he knew that now he had a new light in his life, one he wouldn't let dim.
And when he slept, he could almost hear you whisper back to him as if to try and give him peace; slowly filling the void that consumed him.
"I love you both."
