I open my eyes, all I see is darkness. Was I still asleep? Was I dreaming? Where am I? I try and shift my body, sending a sharp pain down my right side. That's when I remembered. I let out a soft cry and take the pressure off my right arm relieving the pain. "Cole." I hear Katrina say. I can't see her. "Katrina is that you?" I ask looking around. All I could see is darkness, my eyes haven't adjusted yet. "Where are we right now Katrina?" I say, trying to keep calm. "They locked us in the basement in some room. He said he would be back for you when you woke up. I'm guessing to do their testing and experiments. I know I'm supposed to be brave but I'm so scared right now." Katrina started crying. I reached out and searched for her hand. I needed to let her know that I was here. When I found it I grabbed at it waiting for her to reach out back. Finally, she grabbed my hand back and soon we were holding hands. Katrina sighed, and I could tell that she was calmer than before. "I won't let anything happen to you I promise. Everything is going to be okay." I said to her, assuring her that we were going to make it out.

Suddenly, the doors opened and two men walked in. They approached us and I tried my best to sit up, wincing at the pain in my shoulder. I didn't let go of Katrina's hand. I wanted her to know that I was going to be right here with her. One of the men walked over to me and bent down on his knees. I looked him straight in the eyes, anger rushing through my veins. "Not so tough now are you?" The man laughed. "Let her go, this isn't about her it's about me. It's me you want not her." I said, the tension in my voice rising. "First off let me introduce myself. My name is Dyson, I'm a scientist. What you have, we want. You have become very useful throughout the years. We have been watching you, following you, observing you. Cole, you've grown more powerful through the years and now we need you." Dyson said, in a serious voice. He acted professional, and he tried sounding like he was here to be my friend, but I knew better than that. "Whatever you're going to do to me just let her go. I'll do what you want, just please." I begged. Katrina squeezed my hand. He ignored me. "We need you to help us make the world a better place. The human race has gone to shit and now we need you to change everything. I can't let her go Cole, we need her too, I'm sorry." Dyson said. I looked over at Katrina. She was scared; I could see it in her eyes. "I'm not helping you until you let her go." I said, standing my ground. Dyson nodded at the other man who took that as initiative to go for Katrina. He started to pull her up onto her feet. Katrina was fighting the man swatting at his arms as he tried grabbing her. "No, please. Don't do this. Cole please, I'm scared. Please do something." She cried out to me. I couldn't stand watching this any longer. "Alright, I'll do anything you want just please. Leave her out of this." I gave in, I couldn't let them take her, I promised her everything was going to be OK and I failed her. Dyson raised his hand telling the man to stop. The man let go of Katrina and Katrina quickly came up to me and grabbed my hand, almost as if it made her feel safer. "I can't experiment on you when you're weak. The test won't work in your state of condition." Dyson said. "I'm fine. It won't affect your testing. I'll heal, it's just taking longer that's all" I said, I needed to buy time. "That bullet Fitzgerald shot you with was not ordinary bullet. It was designed for invincible's much like yourself. There is a chemical inside the bullet that slows down the invincible's healing process. You'll heal eventually, just not as fast as you would normally. Enough time to get what we need." Dyson explained. How did he know that I was an invincible? "I said I'm fine." The tension present in my voice. I struggled to stand up onto my feet, but I did it. I stood there facing Dyson directly in the eyes. "Are we going to get this over with or not." I said in short breaths. Dyson didn't say anything, the room was silent. He looked over at Katrina who was sitting on the ground looking up at me. Dyson glanced at the other man, and then back at me. I could see his jaw flexing as if he had just been defeated. "Not yet. I want to make sure the testing is in progress before we go ahead and dissect your brain. I'll be back soon, for now just sit tight." Dyson turned around and walked out, signaling his men to follow him. I stood there, angry. I knew that if I didn't give them what they wanted they would just force Katrina to, and if I did they would leave her alone hopefully, but it wasn't for certain. All I knew was that I had to protect her in any way possible. I said back down next to Katrina and grabbed her hand. She interlocked her fingers into mine. "We have to get out of here." Katrina said. "Before it's too late." I didn't say anything; I just looked at her in agreement and rested my head up against the wall.
