We had been walking for hours; it had to be almost 3:00 although I didn't have a watch on. We decided to take a break and look for something to eat. We had made it down the mountain, only a couple more miles to the portal. Why would the hunters put their headquarters at the top of a mountain only a few miles away from the portal for the seekers? "I'm going to look for some food. There's got to be some berries in the bushes over there. Anything to keep our stomachs full until we get to the portal." I said. "Okay." Katrina said quietly. She sat gathered up some twigs and placed them into a pile. I walked over to some bushes nearby and gathered up some berries I found. I made sure they were okay to eat and continued to pick them. I walked back over to Katrina, who was trying to start a fire. I could tell she was frustrated. I set the berries that I had gathered on the ground and walked over to Katrina. "Let me help you." I said as she handed over the kindle and stones she was trying to start the fire with. It took a few times before I finally got it to light. We had a fire. I brushed my hands onto my pants and stood upright. I looked up at Katrina and smiled, proud of myself. She just looked at me, no expression on her face. "Thanks." She said and took a seat on the ground next to the fire. She leaned up against a log and picked up a stick and started making shapes in the ground. I could tell she was still upset. I took a seat next to her and leaned up against the log too. "Did you really mean what you said back there? Do you really think this is my fault, Katrina?" I asked quietly. It was still bothering me what she said. "No. I don't think this is your fault, Cole. You didn't mean anything; it isn't your fault that they were after you. I was just upset that's all." I could tell in her voice that she was trying to hold back tears. "I never meant for anyone to get hurt. I'm sorry about Damien. He saved me Katrina, for whatever reason. He taught me how to control my gift and for that I will never forget him." I said. "He was like a brother to me. For as long as I can remember he has been the only person since I lost my family that has ever been there for me. I just can't believe he's gone." Tears started rolling down her cheeks. They rushed in like a waterfall. I took her hand. "You have me, Katrina. I promise I will always be here for you. I'm not going anywhere. We're going to be safe I promise. We're going to get to that portal..." She cut me off. "And then what? What happens when we get there? We're supposed to just let these hunters get away with it? All these innocent people they killed just to get ahold of some stupid powers. For what, to get power and destroy the world? They have to be stopped Cole. We can't let them get away with this." Katrina said. "It's not that simple, Katrina. There are more of them then there are of us. We have no chance." I said. "You can't tell me that a room full of seekers and a handful of invincible can't take on a few scientist? We're just going to let them get away with this and hide out? I can't just sit around and do nothing. Damien died saving your life for a reason; He died for you because he knew that if he couldn't stop them then you could. Now I'm going after them with or without you, Cole. I'm going to fight even if it kills me. Are you in or out?" Katrina said. She was feisty, she didn't give up. It made me love her even more. "This is war. We're not going stop until we get our freedom. They want a war, then it's a war they're to get. For your family, for my family, for Damien." Katrina said.
