“Are you ready yet?” I could hear Lucy shout from downstairs. “Hurry up or we’ll be late!”

We were going to our school choir presentation, the first one this semester, so it was a pretty big deal. It was actually an even bigger deal for me. You see, every year at this point our teacher chose a boy and a girl from the seniors to perform the solos, which were one for the girls’ choir, one for the boys’ and the last one they all sang together. We all had to learn all the solos, as the performer was only announced on stage.

I’d been in the choir since I joined this school: freshman year, three years before. Plus, Mr. Johnson had helped me a lot since the beginning, when I got casted in the school musical for a big role and had no experience in singing live by myself whatsoever. To sum it up, I was feeling pretty confident about this year. I’d always imagined that moment, since I was a ninth grader, and there was only one other thing that could make it even better: Derek.

Derek had been the guy of my dreams just a couple of years before. After my junior year, I realized he was just a jerk who thought he could get any girl he wanted, which he probably could, by the way. After that, I decided to lower him down to just the guy from my biology class who I talked to when I felt like I was about to die of boredom. Don’t get me wrong, he really was the cutest guy in my school, I just didn’t want to become another one of his toys, so I chose to befriend him and avoid that kind of ‘relationship’. Of course, that didn’t mean I’d changed my mind about my dream though, singing the solo with him would still be the best way I could imagine finishing my last semester at choir.

I brushed my hair one more time and took a last glance in the mirror. I was actually very excited for this!

I opened the auditorium door and I could see all of my friends, they seemed pretty excited as well. We all came into a huge hug, I just couldn’t believe this would be our last concert! I had been doing that same thing with my same friends for the last three years, I did not want that to be over.

Suddenly, a familiar voice interrupted our emotional conversation.

“Giovanna? Hey! You look-”

“Oh no, not you again! Did you come here just so you could make sure I didn’t enjoy it?” Harry chuckled. I still couldn’t understand why he was never insulted by my accusations, but oh well… Maybe he was just that self confident!

“Unfortunately, I have to say I didn’t come for you, I-”

“Right! Lots of girls, gotta make an impression, huh? Well, it’s actually a pretty good plan, considering Mr. Knight probably ruined your first one.”

“Actually, I-”

At that moment, Mr. Johnson walked in the room to let us know the show was about to start. Thank god! There was only a certain amount of Harry talk I could stand for a while. He lead the girls to the place right next to the stage entrance as we were the first ones to go in and, as the lights went off, we walked in, ready to do what we did best, sing.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.” Mr. Johnson said into the microphone “And welcome to our annual Battle Abbey Independent School Choir Showcase.” He waited until the audience had finished clapping and then went on with his introduction. I heard everything he said carefully, with emotional tears filling my eyes at every single word. I wasn’t as surprised to hear him call my name as I was very touched by all the clapping and encouragement I got from my choir friends. They really were the best you could get!

So that was it, the moment I’d been waiting for quite a while: singing a duet with Derek! The song we had prepared to sing was a beautiful mash up of Britney Spears and Aerosmith. I know, not usually what you see in a choir presentation, but Mr. Johnson liked to brag about the versatility of our group, so he always had something contemporary prepared, and we all kind of liked that, a lot!

After the girls’ song, I had found my parents waiting backstage to congratulate me, so I could barely hear the music and I didn’t get to actually see Derek perform, but I just knew from what I’d heard that he did great, as always!

Walking back onstage felt awesome, except when I noticed I couldn’t see Derek anywhere! Instead, leading the guys’ choir I could only see the most annoying green eyes and cheeky smile I had ever known. My world stopped. What was going on? Where was Derek? What was Harry Freaking Styles doing in a choir?? I mean, of course he was a singer, but a pop singer, he was already in a worldwide famous boyband, he didn’t need anything else. Right? Why was I the only one freaking out about this???

(The song is on the side, it was played on glee. I hope you guys like it, because I’m in love with it! You can start it now J)

The music started playing, and I still couldn’t breathe. Harry came to my side and held my hand, smiling encouragingly. I had no idea what planet I was in and what had happened to everything I knew about life, but I started singing anyway, as I decided to try to understand everything after the show was over and the whole audience wasn’t staring at me anymore.

Harry started singing his part and I couldn’t help but look at him, I instantly remembered why I had fallen in love with him in the first place. Before the concert, before the discussion, before I knew anything about his personality, even though I thought I did. We kept singing the song and I just couldn’t stop staring into his eyes for one second. Maybe he wasn’t that bad after all. Someone with that sweet angelic voice couldn’t do harm to anyone, it would just be wrong!

After the song was over, I realized we were still holding hands. I looked at him and he was smiling, cheekily. “Now can you admit that you don’t hate me all that much?” He whispered, while the crowd stood up and gave us a standing ovation.

I looked at him smiling and answered “Why would I lie?”. Taking my hand away from his, I ran to where my friends were, giving them a huge group hug excitedly.

I could see from the corner of my eye that he just kept standing there, still smiling. STILL SMILING! I just couldn’t understand that I did everything I could to try to annoy him as much as he annoyed me but all I got at the end of the day was that same stupid smile! Oh, but that couldn’t last very long. I would take that smile away even if it was the last thing I did at that school. If it’s war he wanted, it was war he would get!

_______________

I’m VERY sorry it took me so long to write! I had a major writers block with all this Taylor situation and I also took a trip to the US in the beginning of the month, so I didn’t have much time to write. I promise I’ll make it up for you though, I hope some of you haven’t given up on my story just yet, I have it all planned out, and it’s AWESOME!

Also, I've been trying to make the chapters a little longer, because people were complaining they were too short. Let me know if you think they are getting a little boring or whatever you think!

I will be posting the next chapter when this one reaches 10 votes, so if you like where this is going, please vote and comment, it really means a lot to me! :)
