Izuku's POV:

I glance at the clock on my phone, five minutes to midnight. I can't help to groan at this. Most kids my age would be waiting awake with their parents like it was new years eve, but not me. Not only would my mother be angry if I made her stay up, but I had also been dreading this day for years. My fifteenth birthday.

Why, you may ask? Well, I'm finally getting my soulmate mark of course! Many see this as one of the best days of their lives, but it will only bring more pain for me, and in turn, my soulmate. Not only will they be stuck with a useless Deku as a mate, but they also will feel all the beatings I receive as a penalty for being so useless. They don't deserve that, I'm sure of it.

I feel a slight stinging sensation on my left wrist, signifying my mark has appeared. I ignore it, not wanting to know what intricate shape and color has graced my wrist. Not even a minute later I feel not one, but two pens writing on my arm. Great two soulmates to hurt... At least they had each other, and wouldn't need me. If I died then neither would be alone, so that's good I guess.

As much as I want to ignore the writing the stupid soulmate bond wont let me, so eventualy I give in and look to see what they wrote. I look at the marks first. There's a red mark that looks like a rock on the left side of my wrist and next to it is a second slightly darker red mark shaped like an explosion.

Oh god... I know that red...

That red is the color of Kacchan, Katsuki Bakugou's eyes. He had been my biggest tormenter until he got his mark back in april. After that he mellowed out a bit, but nobody else did sooo...

I finally read the words written on my forearm. One, in bright red pen and unfamiliar handwriting, says "Happy Birthday!" I can practically feel their joy radiating through the writing. The other, in plain black writing, says a less enthusiastic "Happy birthday". As expected of Kacchan. The mark updating must have woke him up, he's usually asleep at this point.

The bond is urging me to write something back, but I don't want to. What if Kacchan recognizes my hand writing? He already hates me enough for having a villainous quirk, he'd probably kill me for being his soulmate. Still it would be rude of me to say nothing and force them through the pain of my daily life, so I make my decision.

I quickly grab a pen from my desk and write a simple message on my arm. "I'm sorry". Almost immediately I get a message in red back, simply asking "Why are you sorry?" with Kacchan just writing "?".

I ignore the rest of the words written on my arm and try to sleep, knowing that Inko won't go easy on me because it's my birthday. If anything, my beating will be worse due to the fact that it is the day a useless Deku was born and because I have two marks, meaning two significant others. Seeing as most relationships only include two people and my mother is less accepting than most this little fact won't go untouched. My mates are going to understand my message too soon, and I fear for when they do.
