Day Four

Prompt: "I'm right here, okay? You're all right."

Ship: Lava (Kai x Cole)

-mars_bar I know you said Kai angst but I can't help but torture Cole!

Something feels off. Kai had arrived home from a mission around ten minutes ago, and was quite surprised when his boyfriend, who had been begging him not to leave, hadn't come rushing down to meet him. It's strange to say the least.

Kai's tried everything, calling out, checking the kitchen, bathroom, storage room, training room but his earth ninja is nowhere to be found, or seen.

Walking towards their bedroom, he goes to push the door open when he hears a sound inside.

Crying.

"Cole?" Kai's voice calls out, his voice cracking slightly with worry and concern.

It goes completely silent. Even though his worry is through the roof, he's respecting Cole's privacy. He always will.

There's shuffling and a quiet click. The door creaks open a little bit before stopping.  After a minute, Kai slowly pushes the door open.

Their room is pitch black, a stark contrast to the bright sunshine outside. Kai's eyes dart around the room, trying to find his older boyfriend.

His eyes land on a lump on the bed, the figure almost completely covered by a large blanket. Kai's eyes soften and he slowly walks over, sinking onto the edge of the bed.

"Cole..what's wrong?"

A sniffle and a shuffle make Kai look towards him. Cole shuffles and turns so he can see Kai. His dark eyes are red and full of tears, tears streaming down his face.

"Cole..." Kai turns so he's sitting directly across from the ravenette and opens his arms, waiting patiently.

A second later, Cole darts into Kai's arms, shaking. Kai wraps his arms around Cole and pulls the earth ninja onto his lap. Cole shakily reaches out and clutches Kai's shirt, his whole body shaking with silent cries.

"Shh.." Kai rocks Cole in his arms, "shh, what's wrong?"

"I-I," Cole stutters out.

"Take your time."

Cole sniffles and wipes his eyes in Kai's, already damp, shirt. Kai's hands travel up to his hair and he runs his fingers through it.

"I-I t-thought y-you...y-you-" Cole breaks down into sobs.

"Shh shh. You thought I wasn't going to come back?"

Cole nods shakily and sobs harder. Kai's heart shatters. He knows Cole hates being on his own, he has since his mother died. Even though Kai barely leaves him, Cole's always super upset whenever he's left alone for more than ten minutes. Kai leaving for nearly three days has completely broken his boyfriend.

"Oh baby...shh shh. I'm here now, I'm here."

Cole sobs and sobs into Kai's chest, clinging and refusing to let go. Kai rocks him, strokes his hair, murmurs comforting words, everything he can to try and lessen the volume of his boyfriends sobbing.

"I found a love."

Cole's head snaps up, tears streaming down his face. Kai reaches out, cups his face, wipes his his tears and carries on.

"For me,
Darling just dive right in
And follow my lead.
I found a man.
Beautiful and sweet.
I never knew I'd find that someone
Waiting for me."

Looking down, Kai's eyes soften. His teddy bear is asleep on his chest, clinging to his shirt, breathing shakily in his sleep. Kai kisses his forehead gently.

"I'm right here, okay? You're all right."

The grip on Kai's shirt gets tighter, almost as if the raven haired male is checking that his fire ninja is still there.

"I'm right here."

COLE ANGST IS MY FAVOURITE!! Especially with lava.
