The bell above the door of the pet shop door chimes, making Jay poke his head around from the back. His baby blue eyes shine when he spots Zane quietly closing the door behind him, trying not to spook the animals any further.
Jay and Zane went to school together three years ago, both being mutual friends with Cole, which is how they met. They'd grown close early on and had been friends ever since. Sure they didn't message every day, but they both knew the other was there when they needed them.
Leaning the broom against the wall, Jay steps out onto the shop floor. He clears his throat, making Zane's head snap up.
"Jay? I didn't know you worked here."
A bright smile forms across Zane's face as he walks over. Jay smiles too and leans against the counter.
"Just, needed some extra cash on the side. I need to start paying off my student loan early."
Zane chuckles lightly, his eyes gleaming. A light blush dusts across Jay's cheeks.
"So, what brings you here?"
"Well, its my girlfriend's-"
"Pixal's?"
Zane nods, a light blue blush dusting across his cheeks. He nods.
"It is Pixal's birthday in a couple of days and I want to get her a pet."
"What kind of pet?"
"I am not sure."
Taking Zane's arm, Jay drags him to the far corner of the store. The wall is lined with multi-coloured fish tanks, each filled with different breeds of fish. Zane pulls a face.
"I was thinking something that...she can hold."
Pulling Zane to the opposite side, there is an array of birds, each one stood on a pole, their feet tied down so they can't fly away. Zane walks over to a white budgie, smiling once they lean into his outstretched hand. Jay smiles. Zane's always loved birds.
"I would love a bird, I just don't think Pixal would appreciate one."
Pulling Zane further down, a cat runs over and rubs their fur against Jay's legs, purring loudly. Jay smiles and picks her up, letting her nuzzle into his face. Zane smiles. Jay's always loved cats.
"Pixal's father is allergic to cats, he lives with her so a cat isn't a good idea."
Putting the cat down, Jay drags Zane to the opposite corner. The pair are instantly greeted with barking. Zane pulls a face.
"Too loud?" Jay asks.
Zane nods. Moving onto the final section, Zane's eyes light up. A small selection of rabbit hutches lay across the floor. Zane crouches down next to a hutch.
A white nose pokes Zane's finger. Zane slowly opens the window and smiles widely. A small black bunny is staring at him, her paws have white tips. She's around the size of Zane's palm.

"She is adorable," Zane slowly reaches inside, allowing her to nuzzle into his hand.
"That's Oreo."
"I'll take her."

A few days later, Jay's phone buzzes. Ducking into the back, Jay opens the message. A bright smile comes across his face.
She loves her! Thank you.
Smiling, Jay clicks on the image. Zane's arm is wrapped around Pixal as she holds Oreo on her lap. She's stroking her fur and smiling widely.
