Themi didn't let go of his arm until she pushed him through a hole in the wall of an old house five streets away from the club. She hadn't really thought of what she was doing until she lit a candle. The electricity dried up in the old house years ago. She lit a few more candles as he lay on the floor confused. He was also in shock. She had basically kidnapped him, he would have laughed if he wasn't so confused by the whole situation. When she had lit about thirteen candles she sat in front of him. She didn't know what to say and neither did he. The two of them just sat there staring at each other. She was just mainly thankful she couldn't really hear the fighting anymore. He straightened up and sat cross legged on the floor. It was dusty. He wished he hadn't worn all black clothes. After a few more confusing seconds he thought he should speak.
"Your eyes glow."
And suddenly he wished he hadn't. Themi was taken aback. Not what she expected.
"I know."
Her head cocked slightly to the side and she laughed. She had notice the way his body froze after he had spoke, like he was scared he said the wrong thing. Her laughing at him didn't really put him at ease either.
"What is your name?"
"Christopher."
"Wow."
"What?"
"You told me that so easily."
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Now you are questioning me."
Again his body stilled but she smiled slightly. He was still looking into her eyes. This is a man who doesn't back down but wouldn't trust me as far as he could throw me.
"I'm only joking."
"I'm not exactly at ease."
"So you are more charming normally?"
"I didn't know you wanted me to be charming."
She pulled her knees towards her body. Christopher was so shocked that, apart from the glowing eyes, she seemed normal. Human. He knew he shouldn't be here, for all her knew she was like a coiled snake. Ready to strike. Strike at him. They'd never find him. He promised Lewis he would be back.
"Christopher."
She was testing his name. It felt natural for her to say it. The name reminded her of something, someone, she couldn't place.
"Yes?"
"Why were you at the back of the club?"
"I got pushed back in all the chaos... I thought there would be another exit, you proved I was right."
He couldn't believe how easily that lie come to him. It was not like he had any training for this eventuality.
"Yeah."
The anxiety for Makis came back at full force. He was alone there, if he was hurt she wouldn't be there to help him. Christopher noticed a change in her face.
"Where are we anyway?"
Her head shot up like she forgot he was here. It made him flinch slightly. He didn't mean to and he could see some hurt pass over her features.
"I don't exactly know."
"Then how did you know to come here?"
"I came here once, a long time ago."
"Was it still a house...house that time?"
"A home? No I've never been here when Humans were."
Why was she telling him this? She had no idea. She knew Humans couldn't exactly be trusted but somewhere deep inside her she knew this one, Christopher, could. He wanted to ask why she didn't seem to know him but he was a boy the last time they met. He had changed, a lot. He was curious to know how she aged because looking at her now was like looking at her back then. The same. Unmoved by time or stress or life.
