Summary: Dan gets sick on Valentine's Day and has to cancel his plans with Phil.

Dan buried his face into his pillow, pulling the blanket up to his chin.
He'd woken up at six in the morning with a stuffy nose and a headache, and no will to leave his bed. He didn't know how he'd gotten sick so suddenly, but it was probably from the cold. Even in February, it was freezing.
But that wasn't even the worst part. Not only was he deathly sick, he was sick in Valentine's Day.
He hadn't had much enthusiasm for the holiday before, but this was his first time celebrating it with Phil. His boyfriend of three month now. And now he couldn't celebrate it the way he wanted because his immune system was being a bitch.
Dan had spent the last week planning this day, as horribly romantic as that sounded, and now everything was ruined. He couldn't even move without having the strong urge to vomit.
This wasn't the way he expected the day to go.
He was reaching out from under his blanket to grab the box of tissues on his bedside table when his room door opened and in walked Phil, wearing pajamas and messy bed hair.
"Morning." He said with a smile, and Dan tried to return it, but he was sure it was less exciting. Phil instantly knew something was wrong, and his smile turned into concerned frown. "What's wrong?"
Dan sighed, running his hands over his face. "I've got the plague." He said, sort of nasally from his stuffed nose.
"Aw, no." Phil whined, coming over and climbing on top of Dan clumsily. "We're suppose to cuddle and feed each other chocolate today."
Dan laughed weakly, tangling his fingers with Phil's on his chest. "I'm still up for the chocolate part."
The truth was that Dan had actually had a lot more planned for today than just sitting inside. He'd made reservations at a very fancy restaurant the Phil had been wanting to go to for a while. He'd gotten a new tux and everything. And after that, he wanted to take Phil out into the city and just walk around. Maybe visit a few shops. Then come home and watch cheesy romance movies together.
"Well, I'll just have to give your gift now, then." Phil said resolutely, and got off of Dan, leaving the room before Dan could protest.
Dan sat up with some difficult, leaning against the headboard and wincing as his head throbbed painfully. This was the worst he'd felt since he was eleven and had the flu.
He closed his eyes wearily, and was starting to doze off when he heard footsteps and Phil came back in, carrying a smallish box. It was obviously a jewelry box, and it had a red ribbon tied around it. Phil sat down next to him, placing the container in Dan's lap and grinning widely. He was clearly excited for Dan to open it.
"You didn't have to buy me anything, you know." Dan said, making Phil roll his eyes.
"Just open it, will you?" Phil said. Dan smiled at him and picked up the box, unwrapping the ribbon carefully.
Inside it was a ring. A thick band of silver nestled into the dark velvet of the box. Dan stared at it for a moment, then looked up at his boyfriend.
"This isn't what I think it is, right?" He said. Phil blushed at his meaning.
"Oh." Phil stuttered. "I- I didn't buy it for that. Sorry, if you thought-"
"Calm down." Dan cut him off, and sniffled. "I was just teasing. I love it, seriously, thank you."
Phil scowled at him mockingly, but still leaned over and kissed Dan's cheek. "Look what's engraved in it." He said with a knowing smirk.
Dan raised an eyebrow in question, carefully taking the ring and holding it close to his face. In curling letters were the words Love Truly, and Dan couldn't help but smile. He put the ring on his middle finger, inspecting it lovingly. It actually looked amazing, sitting on his hand delicately. He wasn't one for rings, usually, but this was a grateful exception.
"I didn't get you anything." Dan said sheepishly. But Phil only grabbed his hand, smiling.
"You didn't have to." He said firmly. "Honestly, as long as we can be together."
"I actually was going to surprise you." Dan said, sniffing again. "I made plans and stuff. Was going to take you out and declare my life for you and all that."
Phil bit his lip, barely holding back his wide grin. "Did you really?" He asked and Dan nodded.
"But now it's all ruined." Dan said with a sigh. "I'm all sick and you're gonna be all lonely now."
"I won't." Phil said, and before Dan could say anything, he pulled back Dan's blankets and climbed underneath them, moving closer to Dan. "We can cuddle still."
"You're gonna get sick, too." Dan complained, trying to back up some, but Phil only moved with him.
"I don't care." He said, making Dan lay down next to him and wrapping an arm around him. "We'll be sick together."
Dan gave up and turned onto his side, pulling Phil closer and relishing in the warmth of his body heat. His blankets had been considerably colder before.
They lay there for a few moments, just holding on to each other. Dan was starting to drift off again when Phil spoke.
"This is honestly a lot better than going out."
Dan chuckled and buried his nose into Phil's hair. "It really is."
"I still get to kiss you though, right?"
"If you want to get sick as well."
Phil tightened his hold on Dan's waist, and Dan could almost see his excited smile. "I definitely plan on it."
