GAS STATION
present day
thirty seven years old
"I'll just be two minutes." Fallon announced as she pulled up to the gas station and looked across to Chris with a smile. Chris nodded as the girl climbed out and walked into the gas station.Fallon walked around the gas station and grabbed two bottles of coke as well as a bottle of Jack Daniels. She smiled towards the group of men who were staring at her. She pulled the jacket that Chris had given her earlier closer around her body, hoping that it would stop their flickering eyes.
"Hey, sweetheart." One of the men walked up to her with a sickening smirk. Fallon offered him a smile to be polite and tried to walk past him to get to the cashier.
"Don't ignore him, baby girl. Come on." The dark haired man placed his hands on the girls hips. "Talk to us."
"Hey, darlin'" Mr Pierce smirked at the familiar girl. "I missed you." Fallon tried to pull away from the men and walk away, but they were too strong for her.
Chris glanced into the shop, wondering what was taking Fallon so long. He clenched his jaw and jumped out of the car once he saw the men grabbing Fallon and her clearly looking uncomfortable.
He slammed the car door and walked towards the men, his fists clenched angrily. Chris grabbed the dark haired man and pulled him off the girl, pushing him to the floor. He slammed his fists into the next ones jaw. He turned to the last one, who held his hands up in surrender.
Chris grabbed the man's shirt and pinned him against the wall. His eyes flickered up to the man in disgust. He recognised him as Mr Pierce, Kimberly's father.
"Don't you ever lay a fucking finger on her again." Chris snapped angrily. The grip on Mr Pierce's shirt was so tight that his knuckles had turned white.
"Or what?" Scoffed Mr Pierce. Chris pulled his hand back to punch the man, but Fallon wrapped her shaky hands around his wrist. His attention now turned to the brunette who merely shook her head.
"Let's just go." Fallon whispered as she tried to pull Chris away.
She knew he was angry. He always was whenever he saw older men trying to hit on her. Or any man that disrespected her for that matter.
"Go to the car, I'll be out in a minute." Chris nodded to the girl. He hated when she saw him get mad. It was a side of him that she rarely saw, that anyone rarely saw.
"Chris." Fallon said almost begging the man. She didn't want him to get hurt because of her.
"Go to the car, Fallon." Chris muttered, his eyes not leaving Mr Pierce. Fallon nodded and placed the items back on the shelves before walking about of the gas station. "Now that it's just us." Chris slammed his fists into the man's face.
"What the fuck?" Mr Pierce questioned as he cupped his nose.
"I know that you and your pathetic daughter started those rumours about Fallon sleeping with you."
Chris remembered hearing the rumours for the first time back in high school. He remembered people calling Fallon names and laughing at her.
"If you come near her again, I'll fucking kill you." Chris seethed as he walked out of the gas station and climbed into the passenger seat of the car.
He ran his hand over his face before turning to look at Fallon. She had tears in her eyes and her bottom lip quivered ever so slightly.
"Are you okay?" He questioned, his breathing was rapid and his heart was racing. He knew that he needed to calm down in order to comfort the girl.
Fallon shook her head. She wasn't okay. Not in the slightest. She was shaken up and anxious. She hated been so vulnerable.
Chris nodded and pulled the girl onto his lap. Fallon curled up into a small ball on his lap, her hands gripping at his shirt tightly as he placed a soft kiss on her head.
"I've got you." He mumbled into her hair. His heart broke when he heard her sniffles. "Let's go home, we can put on little mermaid and cuddle." He suggested. Fallon nodded and went to climb back onto the drivers seat, but instead Chris placed her back on the passenger seat and he sat in the drivers seat.
"Thank you." Fallon whispered as she looked across to him. "I don't know how I've coped without you."
Chris started up the engine and placed his hand over hers. He linked their fingers and placed both their hands over the stick shift.
Fallon let out a small laugh as she smiled. When Chris first learnt how to drive, he used to grab the girls hand and they would drive together. Fallon always found comfort in it for some strange reason.
"Christopher?" Fallon spoke up, making Chris hum in response. "Can you stay in town for a while?"
Chris turned to look at the girl for a split second. Her eyes were full of hope and she had a half hearted smile on her face. He would do anything for her, to make her happy.
"Anything for my best girl."
