SHOTGUN SMOKING
present day
thirty seven years old
Fallon linked her arm with Chris' as they walked into Nanna's house with a smile. Chris had a bouquet of flowers in his hands."Christopher." Doris smiled happily as she saw the man walking into the kitchen with Fallon.
"We got you some flowers, Nanna Doris." Chris said as he leant down to kiss the elderly woman's cheek.
"Happy birthday, Nanna." Fallon quickly hugged the woman. Doris was turning ninety-two today and all the family had come around to celebrate.
Fallon took a step back and Chris placed his hand on the small of the girls back. The brunette looked up to the blonde man and offered him a small smile.
"Thank you, I'll go and put these in some water." Doris responded as she walked away to put the flowers in a vase.
"Chris? I thought that you were catching a flight back home?" Lisa questioned as she walked up to her son with a happy smile.
Chris looked down at Fallon, his fingers began to trace patterns on the small of her back. He liked having her close to him. He liked having her beside him, or finding some way to hold his hand or link their arms together.
"I was but I decided to pay a visit to an old friend and Nanna, who asked me to stay and nobody can say no to Nanna." Chris laughed as his eyes flickered over to the woman, who was laughing with one of Fallon's cousins.
"So where have you been staying? Don't tell me you're sleeping in that rental car-"
"No," Chris chuckled. "I've been staying at Fallon's."
Lisa looked between the two and let a grin form on her face. She motioned to them both with questioning brows.
"So, is this finally happening?" She questioned, her hands clasping together hopefully.
It wasn't a secret that the Reyes and Evan's parents wanted both Fallon and Chris to date. They'd been making it known since they were teens, but the best friends always said they'd never be anything more.
Fallon's eyes widened as she looked up to Chris. His mouth parted as if he was going to say something but kept stumbling over his words.
"No, not weren't not." Fallon cut in, noticing that he was struggling for his words. "We're just friends Momma Evans."
"Is that young Christopher?" Alejandro questioned happily as he saw Chris stood beside Fallon. "It is, Chelsa, it's Chris."
Chelsa came running over to Chris and pulled him into a hug. Chris quickly hugged the woman back. Fallon smiled at the fact that her family all loved Chris.
"Hey Momma Reyes." Chris loved the woman with all his heart. She was a second mother to him and his siblings.
"How have you been? We watched your 'defending Jacob' last night finally." Chelsa questioned as she tapped her husband's chest. "Didn't we?"
"We did." Alejandro nodded.
Fallon looked up to Chris, her hand linked with his as she stepped closer to him. Chris ran his thumb over her knuckles.
"Momma, I think we're going to go on a little walk." Fallon pulled the man with him out of the house. She walked down the front porch and along the street.
She pulled a packet of cigarettes out of her bag and placed a cigarette between her lips before lighting it.
The brunette took a long drag before offering it to Chris. The man let out a small chuckle before taking the cigarette.
"Thank you." He muttered as he watched her exhale the smoke. He'd be lying if he said he didn't find the action incredibly hot.
He ran his tongue over his bottom lip and held the cigarette between his fingers. Fallon pulled the man to a stop, grabbing the cigarette from his fingers and standing in front of him.
"Do you remember when we used to sneak around to smoke these and our parents thought we were dating?" Fallon chuckled at the memory.
"I do." Chris nodded, watching as the girl took a drag before standing on her tip toes. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders and she brushed their noses together.
Chris' lips parted slightly as he leant down, his fingers tracing patterns on her waist as she exhaled the smoke. Chris smirked and inhaled.
Fallon chuckled, remembering the times where they were reckless teens and did that on the daily. She remembered her boyfriend at the time breaking up with her because she and Chris were too close and he didn't like it. He gave her the ultimatum of staying with him and not talking to Chris anymore or staying friends with Chris.
She of course chose Chris.
"Not done that in a while." He laughed as she dropped back off of her tip toes.
"My boyfriend broke up with me when he caught us shotgun smoking for the first time." Fallon laughed, shaking her head at how ridiculous it sounded.
"Yeah, we'll he was an idiot wasn't he?" Chris muttered. The brunette hummed in response as he tucked some of the girls hair behind her ear and cupped her face.
His thumb ran over her cheek bones making her smile. She nuzzled into his palm and closed her eyes, enjoying the comfort that he brought her.
"Nanna would kill us if she saw us smoking." Fallon muttered as she placed the cigarette between Chris' lip. She looked up at the man through her lashes.
"Oh definitely, but we do it anyway." Chris lightly tapped the girls nose before flicking the end of the cigarette onto the floor.
"You staying at mine again tonight?" Fallon questioned curiously.
"If you'll have me." Chris nodded.
Fallon pursed her lips as if she was thinking, but nodded. She loved the company. She loved sitting and talking with someone at night. She loved sharing a house and most of all, she loved waking up next to Chris.
