Chapter 13: FIGHTIN'!

Captain Vangeance: Will the examinees stand by as we commence the duels.

Time went on as each pair of the examinees began their duels. Some destroyed their opponents. Some were left in a tie because they knocked each other out and couldn't get up. And some lost with the result of them being crucially injured. Although the test seems easy, especially because I more or less can control my magic, it still made me nervous.

[I just hope my nerves go away in time so I can show my strength and get into a magic knight squad.]

As the examinees were being "peeled off" the center of the arena, I realized that I was up next. I came to my senses and heard Asta hyping me up.

Asta: You got this Vanellope! Show everyone how strong you are!! You're my rival, so you better go hard!!!

I shot him a thumbs up followed by a hand being placed on my shoulder. I looked behind me and seen Yuno smiling at me confidently.

Yuno: You got this.

I smiled at him and looked forward while heading to the center. There...Betty was waiting while smirking.

Betty: Ready to be beat commoner?

Me: I'm ready to whoop your ass and become the next Wizard King.

She laughed as she got her grimoire ready. I looked up at all the captains and thought,

[Watch me. For I will show you my worth and you'll beg me to be in you squad.]

Captain Fuegoloen: Begin!

Betty quickly attacked me with her lighting magic. I dodged as soon as the attack was about to hit me. I got my grimoire and struck back.

Me: Elemental Magic: Fire Storm!

An abnormal cloud formed above Betty as fire spilled out were she stood. The cloud followed her where ever she moved as the cloud continued to pour droplets of fire.

Me: Elemental Magic: Earth of Imprisonment!

Suddenly I trapped her within the walls of my attack. The cloud was right above her still "raining" within the trap I created. She was about to jump out but I placed a very heavy lid made of rock and covered the top, trapping her like an animal. I didn't want to use my air magic or my water magic because then I could either suffocate her or drown her. I waited to see if she would destroy my "trap house" but it seemed nothing was happening. There was just silence.

[Did I kill her? I couldn't have!]

I ran up the the walls and used my air magic to feel any kind of pulse vibration. I altered the wall so I can see if she was fine and she seemed pretty beat up and burnt. I took down the walls and checked on her breathing.

[She's still alive.]

The recovery mages quickly came up and put her on a stretcher. I felt so bad for what I did to her. I know they said to go hard and not hold back but I feel like it still went too far. I wanted to show that I was capable of being good in combat. I just had no idea how strong my magic was.

Me: *worried* Is she going to be ok?

Healing Mage: She'll be fine. She might need some extra medicine for the burns but she will be perfectly back on her feet.

Me: Is there anything I can do?

He shook his head and smiled. They walked off with her as I stared in their direction. I then looked around not knowing what to do. I looked up at the captains and some seem surprised, some seemed unamused but none of them were impressed. Or that's what it seemed like.

[I really hope this isn't the end for me.]

I walked back to Yuno and Asta. Asta scurried over to me super excited.

Asta: That was amazing Vanellope!

Me: Thank you Asta. I just...I really hurt her...I had no idea how strong my magic was.

Asta: Take it with a grain of salt. You did great out there and they did say not to hold back, you did just that. You're going to be accepted. *wraps arm around shoulder* My rival is only going to get stronger from here on out.

Me: Thanks Asta.

Asta: *removes arm* Of course.

Just then, Salim came up to us yelling in a state of rage. As he got closer to us, we all took notice he was going straight towards me. Yuno and Asta stepped in front of me to protect me. Salim smirked as he stopped right in front of the guys. He whipped his hair back with his hand and cackled.

Salim: Oh I see. You have these boys wrapped around your finger...how demeaning. Playing two boys at once. But that is expected from a commoner!

Asta: I don't know what that means but she is anything but that.

Yuno: She won fair and square against her opponent.

Salim laughed and gestured Yuno to the come with him to the center of the arena.

Salim: Then duel me and show me your strength, commoner.

Yuno looked at me and I mouthed "Win". Yuno nodded as Asta threw a thumbs up. Yuno walked to the center as he passed Salim and prepared himself. Without warning, Salim attacked before Captain Fuegoleon could begin the count down. A giant ball of lighting charged straight towards Yuno. Yuno wasn't fased at all and got his grimoire to attack.

Yuno: Towering Tornado!

Yuno's magic was unspeakable! We were all literally blown away from his spell. Salim was instantly beaten and left defeated on the ground. Yuno cameback to us as he high-fived me. Asta was super excited and proudly stated.

Asta: That's my rival! Now it's my turn to show you both how much of a strong rival I am.

Me: You better give it your all! *Thumbs up*

Asta got to the middle to meet up with that "haha" guy. I noticed Sekke's vibe changed dramatically and got in Asta's face.

[I knew this mother-fucker couldn't be trusted. I bet he "be-friended" Asta thinking he could beat him easily. Sekke probably felt that Asta had no magic and tried to take advantage of that. However, what he doesn't know about Asta is that he is not only physically strong but if my theory is correct, Asta has some sort of anti-magic.]
