Chapter 60: "WHY ARE YOU SO PATHETIC?!?"

We decided to find the rest of the captains and mages. I was in such a horrible state of mind in which Asta was as well. We just couldn't believe what we experienced. I began to fall behind as my head just hung low; Yuno took notice and matched my speed.

Yuno: Come on Vannellope, it's going to be alright.

I didn't answer. I was so unnaturally quiet, a trait that I never had. The agony that I was feeling, it was too much for me as it affected my physical state. Yuno didn't say a word but showed he cared through his actions. Yuno stopped me as he stood in front. He then brought me into a warm and tight hug. As he held me, he then spoke up.

Yuno: I know you don't want to talk. That's fine but I want you to rely on me for comfort. I'm always here Vanellope. After all, you're my Vannellope.

The sudden words of hearing I was Yuno's brought me enough energy to lift my arms up and hug Yuno back. I can barely hear Yuno let out a *gasp* when I returned the same gesture. Our hug got tighter as he snuggled his head into the crook of my neck as I did towards his chest.

{Side Note: No one has noticed us.}

Yuno: *whisper* It's going to be ok.

Now, I had the courage to speak.

Me: Are you sure?

Yuno: I promise.

Me: Do...I deserve it?

Yuno slowly let me go and faced me.

Yuno: Of course you do. We both saved that little girl. The outcome was not your fault.

Me: But I should've made sure she was safely somewhere.

Yuno: Then, you and I are at fault.

Me: But why you?

Yuno: Because you and I where on this mission to protect her.

Me: But...but...

[That's when I lost it.]

Me: IF I WASN'T WEAK! IF I WASN'T LOSING MY MIND, MY EMOTIONS, MY GOD DAMN SENSES. YOU WOULD'VE FOCUSED ON GENIA INSTEAD OF MY WORTHLESS SELF WHO GOT SHOT DOWN! SHE COULD'VE BEEN SAFE WITH HER MOM AND DAD! *BREAKS DOWN* SHE'S DEAD BECAUSE OF ME! FOR BEING WEAK!!

I slammed my fists onto my eyes as the tears splashed everywhere.

[Now, everyone took notice.]

They quickly came to us as Yuno stood there in shock. No one knew what to do when they got to me.

Yuno: Vannellope...

Asta took a step towards me as I wailed in sorrow.

Asta: Hey, hey, Vanellope.

Asta then opened his arms and was getting ready to hug me. I was trembling from the negative emotions. But my body needed more affection and an embrace from someone, anyone. So after a few moments, I never felt Asta give me his hug.

[Something's wrong...]

I opened my eyes to see a few of the white coated mages who attacked us earlier. Each of those mages attacked each of us while I gasped from an attack spell thrown to Noelle. As I was knocked down, I froze.

[I thought the defense barrier was strengthen after we gained control of the Capitol?? How did they get in again?! I have to get up..I have to move...Come On Vannellope! Get UP!!]

The young crazy lady with glasses and short black hair came into the battle and released this enormous slime salamander. She cackled so loudly that it stung my ear drums. As she laughed psychotically, she jammed a syringe into the pink jelly animal and enhanced its power. Before anyone could notice, one of the white mages snuck around Asta and knocked him out cold. The psycho path of a woman took Asta into her grasp with the salamander. She shrieked in excitement and disappeared along with the other white mages.
