Cameron POV
I sat only half-listening to what Devon was saying. I stopped listening soon after he said "They don't know what's going to happen or when she'll wake up." I felt so weird. I, Cameron Alexander Dallas, actually cared about someone- like seriously. I'm supposed to be living up to the title I've oh-so obviously earned of "the school's bad boy", but instead I was here. I was at Hope Community Emergency Hospital at nearly midnight crying over a girl who didn't have returned feelings for me.
Before I could let my rambling thoughts continue a few nurses went rushing into Brynn's room and I heard shouting and yelling. Then, silence. Suddenly a familiar voice pierced the air.
" I just want to get some fresh air you sh.t heads!"
Brynn. I couldn't be more relieved to hear her voice. I stood up and ran into the room and my emotions went from worried to humored almost too fast. Brynn was laying down in the hospital bed. She had slipped back into her jeans (which the doctors were working to get back off) and her hospital robe was untied, almost revealing her entire bare chest. I felt a warm flush of color sneak into my cheeks and a sly smirk slip onto my mouth. She glanced over in my direction and then quickly back to the nurse trying to re-implant the IV in her arm as she struggled. Suddenly, her motions stopped. She slowly turned her head back to look at me.
"Why are you here, Dallas." She demanded more than asked. She rarely called anyone by their first names.
"He helped you more than I could Brynn. I'll explain later." Devon said just before I could reply. I made a mental note to thank him later.
I nervously ran my hand through my hair as I stepped forward. The nurses and doctors were finished and after they reminded her that she needed to stay in bed, they left Devon and I alone with Brynn. Brynn looked at Devon as if trying to read his mind and scan his face for any answers but soon gave up and returned to glare at me.
"Are you sure HE'S not the one who made me wind up in here?!" she snapped at Devon, yet not breaking eye contact with me.
Devon sat up a little straighter and released a nervous chuckle. "Brynn, I was there the whole time. I saw it all."
Lie. He looked at me with a questioning look that I could only see from my perephrial vision. I couldn't bring myself to break contact with her beautirul blue- almost grey- eyes.
"I need a cig. Dallas get me one."
"You can't smoke in here beautiful." OH. Hell. I let it slip. All she did was roll her eyes at me .
"Jeesh. Too many goodie-two-shoes in here. I think ya'll are going to make me even more sick than I apparently am." She let out a long yawn as she finished her sentence and rolled over in her bed. I stood up and Devon and I exited the hospital, not a word being spoken. Once we got to the doors he unlocked his phone and started dialing.
"Bro, I can drive you home."
"You sure? Don't you have a curfew?"
"I could care less. Hop in." I said as I started my car. He sat down, wide eyed and buckled his seat as we drove off.
"Thanks by the way... for telling her that stuff about me earlier. It hurt when she thought it was me."
"Don't worry. Bros gotta stick up for eachother right?"
"I have a feeling we're gonna be hanging out a lot more."
Before he got out of my car we exchanged numbers.
"Thanks for the ride. I'll talk to you later."
"No problem. See ya later." He softly closed my door and I made sure he got inside before driving off. I reached into the backseat and grabbed a bottle of Vodka. I had to turn completely around due to the fact it was just barely out of my reach. When my eyes returned to the road I saw a blinding light and didn't have any time to think before I felt the impact.
