"Sometimes running from one problem, faces you with another." -anonymous

Brynn POV

All I could do was run. My legs felt tired and I was beyond exhausted, but every time I tried to stop, I felt like he was getting closer. It wasn't long before I collapsed, falling face first into a a bunch of dirt and leaves. I sat up, realizing my energy had been completely depleted and I was shaking like crazy. I crawled to a tree and leaned my aching back against it and sat in the dirt, taking in my surroundings. It looked like I had run into someone's field or pasture, and I wasn't sure of my exact location. I had dropped my heels a while back and my phone was dead and I had little money.

After I caught my breath and realized Alex wasn't anywhere near me, I stood up, dusted myself off, and walked back the way I had come from. It wasn't long before I was in the middle of an interstate, almost barren of cars. Instead of trying to hitch a ride, which could potentially cause more trouble, I walked on my weary and achy feet until I found a gas station about a half mile away. Once inside I walked into the bathroom.

I glanced in the mirror and was taken back by my disheveled appearance. My hair was mis-parted and tangled, my eye makeup had ling since dried in a tear shaped mess from all the crying I had done, and my arms and dress were covered in dirt. Needless to say, I looked like a mess. I went to the bathroom and went back to the mirrors. I reparted my hair and combed it out with my fingers as best I could. I turned on the warm water and cleaned my face and arms of dirt and runny make-up. I didn't look great, but at least I didn't look like a hobo. Except for the fact that I still was lacking shoes. I walked out of the bathroom and bought a cheap pair of flip flops and a bottle of water and asked to use the cashier's phone to call a friend to help me.

I dialed Clara's number- no answerr

I dialed Devanee's number- no answer

I dialed Devon's number- no answer.

I started to get worried and realized I only had one more person I could call. Cameron. Even though he was in the hospital someone should be there to answer his phone and maybe they could help. Before dialing I realized it was already 5:41pm.

Man I ran for a long time.I thought to myself.

I hesitated and then finally decided to call Cameron, the phone was answered by a familiar feminine voice on the third ring.

"Hello?"

"Leigh?!" I exclaimed, relieved someone picked up the phone.

"Omg Brynn! Where are you? You sound tired." She asked. I laughed at the memories of her constantly using acronyms when she talked.

"Actually no. Can you come pick me up?"

She confirmed that she'd come and get me once I gave her the address to the gas station and said her GPS would get her there in about 20 minutes. I handed th phone back to the man at the register, thanked him, and walked back outside and sat on the bench in front of the window. The sun was already starting to set, leaving a beautiful array of colors shining through the array of branches on the trees across the street. I opened my water bottle and took a long gulp, not realizing how dehydrated I was.

20 minutes started to feel like hours, and then Leigh arrived.

Leigh was about 5'9 and athletic. She played softball, volleyball, and ran track. She had beautiful natural curly dirty blonde hair that was in a new style almost everyday. She was the girl every guy wanted. Her brother was the same. Her brother being Cameron of course.

"Omg Brynn are you okay?!" She screeched, jumping out of her black Range Rover and dashing over to me.

"Yeah. Thanks for coming." I said through the tight squeeze she had encased me in.

"Of course. Let's get you home."

"Um... actually, my parents left for vacation about an hour or two ago..." I muttered, embarrassed.

"Then you're coming home with me." She practically demanded.

I smiled and said thank you as I sat down in the passenger side of her red Volkswagen Bug as she drove off, and suddenly all my exhaustion hit me at once and I coudn't fight off the black veil of sleep any longer. I let my eyes close slowly as I fell asleep with a smile on my face, reealizing that maybe I could get away from Alex. But me being me, I didn't see the all too obvious signs of the contrary.
