Brynn POV:

It was just an hour before Alex was due to pick me up and my nerves were sending shockwaves all throughout my body. It had been two years since his wrath was such a menacing part of my everyday life, and I wanted anything but to let that happen again. I wanted to tell my parents but I already knew they wouldn't care. I looked myself over in the mirror.

I was wearing a short and flowing dress. It was about mid-thigh length and it was super comfortable but super chic at the same time. It had a gold collar with a cream ruffled top and black skirt. I decided to wear an inexpensive pair of black heels I got on sale at Payless and I had on smoky eye makeup and a light blush tinted my cheeks. My hair was in cascading curls around my shoulders and was just past my breasts in length. I completed the look with some gold bangles and gold hoop earrings. I heard an annoyed thinking out front and a muffled voice yelling my name. I quickly grabbed my jacket and walked out of my room, downstairs, and out the door. As soon as I saw his car I became nervous. I had put pepper spray and a pocket knife in a hidden spot in my small purse just as a precaution. I had to admit, I was more scared than I thought I would be.

As I opened the car door I saw a very angered Alex in the front seat.

"What took you so long you fucking slut?"

"I-I'm sorry." I stammered.

"Whatever." He murmered as he sped off.

------ skip awkward car ride-----

We stepped out of the car and walked into Olive Garden, which was busier than usual. As soon as I shut my door Alex came around and grabbed my wrist at the same place he had brusied it at just hours earlier. As we entered the building and sat down to wait for an open table and waiter/waitress I caught some stairs lingering too long in my direction. I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to cover the all-to-obvious red mark and slight bruising from where Alex had hit me that morning. He hadn't even been back in my life fofr 12 hours and he had already managed to bruise me, twice. I cringed in pain when I felt his firm grasp tugging on my aching wrist, signaling for me to stand up. Once I was standing and had smoothed my dress down I was met with the gaze of a beautiful girl who appeared to be around 18, just two years older than myself and a year older than Alex. She was beautiful no doubt, but something about her made me mad. I took a deep breath and followed Alex and the waitress to our table. As we got to the table, Alex gestured for me to sit on the inside. I obeyed and slid in, but caught Alex grabbing the waitress' s ass and quickly realized why I didn't like her.

She's prettier than me. She's a threat.

I was even confusing myself with my thoughts.

Wait, why do I hate her for Alex grabbing her butt? Why do I basically feel jealous? I guess it's because he thinks he can walk into my life, take me over, and then treat me like trash. I was mad at Alex, not the waitress. But still, her face looked familiar...

My thoughts were interrupted by her squeaky voice.

"Hi I'm Heather, welcome to Olive Garden, what can I get you to drink?" Just her voice stirred something deep inside me. Anger? Jealousy? Annoyance.

I felt Alex nudge me with his shoulder.

"Oh um I'll take a Dr.Pepper, thanks." I said shyly.

"Okay. I'll be right back with your drinks." Heather said and left. I glared in her direction and then looked at Alex with a disapproving look and rolled my eyes, knowing he wouldn't hurt me in public.

"What's with the uncalled for attitude?" He asked almost convincing me that he cared.

"What do you mean 'uncalled for'?! You can't come back into my life and then go and grope some girl you just met. It's sick." I spat, the acid of my sassiness practically dripping from each word.

"Okay let me set this straight. I have only one interest in you. I came back so I could finish what I started. We're nothing, you're NOTHING to me." He spat. Even though all my feelings for him had long since evaporated, his words still stung. Just in time, Heather came back with our drinks.

"Thanks..." I murmured.

We ordered our appetizers and then our main courses.

-----skip the actual eating part lol----

Had had me by the wrist again, and we were halfway to his car when I realized I left my wallet inside.

"Hey, um. I left my wallet back there. Can I go grab it?"

"Yeah whatever. Hurry up you slut, don't keep me waiting." He said with a smirk, trying to look seductive I guess.

He let go of my wrist and I walked back into the building. As I walked, I planned my escape plan. While we were eating I had to go to the bathroom, there was a door that led out the back, and outside. It was my last chance. I sat down in the booth and unclipped my heels and grabbed my wallet and held my heels in my hands. I walked toward the door and took a deep breath. With no destination in mind, I opened the door and ran for the tall bushes, hoping if I got behind them fast enough, he wouldn't see me running. I took off in a full sprint, but heard the unmistakable rev of his engine following me. I ran faster than I could comprehend and had only one thought, repeating itself over and over.

Run.
