I just wrote this. I got distracted from posting the first one, and started writing this. This is actually a serious one, though that doesn't mean it's any good. Tell me what you think ;)
The Imperfect Perfection
Step one
You fall in love
What more can you ask?
Nothing can go wrong
Because everything is perfect.
Step two
You fight.
It's your first,
And you hope it's the worst.
But right now, who knows?
Step three
You make up.
It was inevitable, that fight
And so you expected it.
And so, again, everything is perfect.
Step four
You parade each other around
Like you're each some sort of prize.
And in a way, you are.
But in the end, what is it worth?
Step five
What's happening?
You've grown comfortable; too comfortable
He's different now, now that you're comfortable.
He hit you once, but he didn't mean it. You fight.
Step six
He apologizes; you accept.
After all, everything is perfect
One hit? Who cares?
He didn't mean it, you love each other.
Step seven
He didn't mean it, you swear
It was just one time, just one more time.
He apologized again, and bought you a ring.
He asked you to marry him, because he knows you're perfect.
Step eight
You wed. Husband and wife, till death do you part
But what does that mean?
You're in love, and even death cannot part that
And so you forgive his hand, just one more time.
Step nine
A baby. A baby is to be born.
And just how perfect is that? Perfectly perfect
He hits you again, but promises it's the last
Just one more, he says. But of course he's right
Step ten
The baby dies. But it was an accident, you know.
He hit you once more, but it was only once
Your love is too perfect for him to have done it purposely
After all, what is love without mistakes?
Step eleven
He hits you again. But you deserved it.
You don't need to be told "Only once more"
You were not perfect enough for the baby, and so it's your fault
You see that, and he does too. Which is why you're perfect
Step twelve
You can't have another baby, you are told
And so he hits you again. But again, you deserve it
You try to please him, but you can't
Whose fault is that? Not his, oh no
Step thirteen
He hits, you bleed. It's worse than before
What's happening? What's going on?
Everything is turning black, but from what?
It was only once more, just once more.
Step fourteen
You awake. Everything is white
Where are you? Where is he?
Someone speaks, but it is not him, and so you do not listen
You call for him. Before he comes, the white is replaced with black
Step fifteen
Someone calls for you, but it is not him
They tell you that he is in jail, you weep
Why would he leave you? Why would he leave a love so perfect?
You blame yourself for not being perfect enough, just once more. Black
Step sixteen
They tell you that he is gone, and that that is good
You don't believe them, for it is not them you love
You tell them this, but still they persist
Why don't they listen? Why can't they see?
Step seventeen
You begin to listen. You begin to see their truth
You realize they are right, and that he was wrong
You understand what happened, and that it was not perfect
Nothing was perfect, and that was not love
Step Eighteen
He was bad, and you are not. You are good
You move on, though it is not easy
He broke your heart, tore it apart
But it's not the end of perfect
Step nineteen
You meet someone. He is different than Him
He does not hit you, and that is good
But still, you are cautious. And that is okay
They tell you you're doing good, but it's not quite perfect
Step twenty
You realize it may never be perfect
You realize that you don't care
You understand that not everything must be perfect
But being happy is all that counts.
