"Stay safe," your boyfriend mumbled, his eyes glued to yours.

"C'mon you know me, safe is my middle name," you cracked a smile, but Leo didn't return it.

"I'll be fine, Valdez," you rolled your eyes. "We're retrieving a spear, not fighting Gaea...yet."

"One, it's a scepter and two, it's not the monsters I'm worried about," Leo replied. You followed his gaze to Nico di Angelo, who was awkwardly standing outside of the group. Judging by the afflicted expression on his face, he was uncomfortable watching the close group of friends bid goodbye to each other.

"I'll be fine, he doesn't worry me," you smiled at Leo, but didn't take your eyes off Nico either.

"Right, the son of hell and the daughter of light going on a mission together, what could possibly go wrong?" Leo rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into his chest.

"Come back to me," he whispered in your ear. A blush crept onto your face. It was something the two of you said to each other while bidding goodbye. A phrase you two created during your first mission together, all those months ago when the biggest monster you had to face was a couple of cyclops. And ever since you spoke those words for the first time, the saying became a habit whenever the two of you had to split up. It seems as if splitting up had also become a habit.

"Of course," you replied, pulling away only far enough to press a quick kiss to his lips.

Turning away, you connected eyes with Jason, the other demigod to accompany you on the mission. You made your way toward him but heard Leo call out once more.

"Stay cautious, we're not 100% sure what you're up against!"

"Of course," you grinned. "Cautious is my second middle name."

And with that, the son of Zeus, the daughter of Apollo, and the son of Hades took off on their journey to retrieve a scepter that could help them defeat Gaea.

Everything was going as planned, well as close to planned as possible, but twists were bound to happen on any demigod mission. And things went from bad to worse when Cupid showed up.

"Nico, what does this guy want from you?" Jason shouted from across the street. You stood next to Nico as he was sloped against a granite pillar, his breathing ragged and it wasn't because of the arrow wound in his arm. You noticed the grass around his feet turning wilting and turning black. The shadows crept forward like curling fingers. As it reached your feet, a sharp pain shot up your leg, almost like the shadow was sucking your life force too.

You stumbled away with a yelp of pain.

"I'm sorry - I can't control it right now - just stay back!" Nico responded, holding his hands in front of him.

"No, you're hurt - and this joke of a God is getting on my nerves," you clenched your teeth, raising your weapon, a golden bow, and searching the skies for the invisible god.

Joke? The only joke here is your love life, daughter of Apollo.

The God's voice boomed in the sky again.
