things you said when I was crying

Fridays were hands down the highlight of the week, thanks to lunch. It was always a grand feast, a way to celebrate another successful week at camp.

Even if it wasn't everyone's favorite day, it certainly was yours. You eagerly filled your plate from the buffet before settling into your usual spot beside your boyfriend, who appeared to have opted for a plate full of something green and fresh.

"Ugh, can't you have at least one cheat day?" you sighed, rolling your eyes. As soon as you arrived, he wrapped his arm around your waist, a bright smile spreading across his face.

"One day can quickly turn into every day," he teased, poking your ribs and making you jolt away from him.

"Hey!" you laughed, grabbing onto his arm to keep from tumbling off the bench. With effortless strength, he pulled you back against his side, the muscles beneath his shirt flexing under your grip.

A blush crept into your cheeks. He shot you a smirk, brushing his golden blond hair away from his face with his free hand before returning his attention to his plate.

"Ugh, is this a dining pavilion or the set of The Bachelor?"

Sat a couple of tables behind the couple was Leo. A scowl on his face as his eyes scrutinized you and Mr. Perfect who still had his arm around you.

"Is she his girlfriend or his dog? What's with the constant leash?"

"Seriously, Leo," Piper laughed from beside him. "You need to learn how to be happy for your friends."

"What does she see even in him?" Leo blabbered on, completely ignoring what Piper had said.

"Well, he's tall, built, and blond," Jason smirked, pushing his own blond hair out of his face. Leo's expression twisted in distaste.

"Not to mention a son of Ares," Piper bit her lip, her eyes now glued to the back of your figures as well. Jason's expression switched to match Leo's.

"Well, maybe he's not that cool..." he retorted, his eyes lowering into slits at his girlfriend.

Leo let out another groan as he watched What's-His-Face whisper something into your ear that made you giggle and push at his shoulder.

"Leo, she's happy," Piper pitched in once more, ignoring the death glare her boyfriend was shooting at her. "You should be happy for her."

With that, the girl with short hair picked up her empty plate and headed toward the deposit bins. Jason was next to get up, his plate cleared. As he stood, he placed a hand on Leo's shoulder.

"Maybe try talking to her," he spoke softly. "She's still the same girl we saved the world with."

That made Leo's expression soften. Thinking back to the time it was just the four of you, riding through the sky on the back of his bronze dragon. Before you started camp. Before he was forced to share you with other people. Before you fell in love right in front of him.

The son of Hephaestus stayed at the table long after his two friends left. Even staying long after the group at his table left. With his eyes glued to your frame, fork flicking food back and forth, he waited until your group were the ones rising to their feet and emptying their plates into the trash. Only then, after watching your figures walk off toward whatever activity you had planned after lunch, did he finally clear his spot.

It was later that evening, after the sun had set and the moon was high in the sky, Leo had been walking from the bunker back to his cabin. He thought everyone had gone to bed since the hour was so late but as he strode down the dirt trail, he heard a cabin door slam. Glancing that way, he spotted someone rushing down the steps of the Ares cabin. As the figure left the porch of the cabin and stepped into the moonlight, Leo realized it was you.
