things you said before i kissed youThe rain drummed steadily against the window, a rhythmic melody that filled the small, cluttered room. You sat at your easel, paintbrush poised above a blank canvas, your heart heavy with memories that felt both distant and achingly close. Outside, the world blurred into a watercolor wash of gray, but inside, your thoughts swirled with vibrant colors—the reds of laughter, the blues of sorrow.
Each stroke of the brush was a desperate attempt to capture the essence of your boyfriend's voice, the way it would dance through the air like a gentle breeze. But today, the canvas remained unmarked, as if it mirrored your own paralysis—a reflection of the creative block that had taken root in your heart since his disappearance.
At that moment, a loud thump resonated from just outside the back door. Setting down your paintbrush, you rose to your feet, curiosity piqued. But before you could move, the back door swung open violently, and a figure tumbled onto the floor.
Instinctively, you rushed forward to assist the stranger. But when you turned the person onto their back, a gasp escaped your lips. It was Leo—your boyfriend who had been missing.
He was covered in blood.
Your stomach twisted at the sight, but you fought to push the queasy feeling aside.
"Leo! Can you hear me? What—what happened? Where have you been?"
All he could manage in response was a low groan.
"Oh!" You stammered, springing into action. You quickly grabbed the first aid kit from the wall and reached for the ambrosia in the cabinet. You did your best to tend to Leo, and soon he was able to speak.
"Are you okay?" you asked, gently brushing the curls away from his forehead.
"Well," he grunted, "I wish I'd been hugged more as a child."
"I meant more about the whole bleeding-on-my-floor situation," you replied.
"Right," he grunted again, attempting to prop himself up into a sitting position but failing.
"Just stay still," you murmured, removing your sweater and placing it under his head for comfort. "The others are on their way."
An uneasy silence settled between you, filled only by the sound of your fingers running through his hair and Leo's steady, labored breaths.
His eyes met yours once more as he whispered, "Come here."
His voice was low, and now your stomach was doing flips for another reason. You hesitated, but the longing you'd felt in his absence overwhelmed you. Leaning in, your lips brushed against his. What was supposed to be a quick kiss turned into something more as Leo deftly wove his fingers through your hair, pulling you closer and holding you there until you were utterly breathless.
"Um—are we interrupting something?" a voice rang out from behind you. Whipping your head around, you spotted Jason, Piper, and the rest of the gang standing in the doorway. Heat rushed to your cheeks.
"I found Leo," you stammered.
"We see that."
