things you said over the phone (iris message)"A little bit to the left," you guided.
An arrow flew through the air and hit the siding of the Aphrodite cabin. Missing the target by a good 3 feet.
"Your other left," you murmured. Nathaniel huffed before dropping his bow to his side.
"This is useless," he grumbled, rubbing his temples with his fingers.
"No," you refuted, biting your lower lip, "you just need more practice."
Your eyes examined the other arrows that were stuck in the side of the cabin.
"A lot more practice.."
Nathaniel groaned and dropped the bow completely to the ground.
"But you'll get the hang of it, I promise," you chuckled, but before you could finish your thought, you were blinded by a shimmering light to your left. It was an incoming iris message.
"Uh, we'll pick this up again tomorrow, Nathaniel."
The young teenager grumbled something about all these practices and no results before walking off.
You rolled your eyes with a small smile before turning your attention to the iris message. You waited for the image to finish forming.
"Hello? Anyone there? Hello.."
The picture cleared and in the light you could see Leo standing on the deck of the Argo II. Behind that stretched miles of ocean. Above him storm clouds loomed overhead, a light drizzle beginning.
"Can you see me?" You called out.
A wide grin stretched across his face. "Yes, I do - hey there."
"Hi," you beamed.
"Hey.." He responded.
"Uh - hey." You echoed.
"I already said that - sorry - I just - I haven't seen your smile in so long."
A blush crept up your neck. You had to stop yourself from covering your face with your hand.
"I forgot how easily you take my breath away," he continued.
"Stop." The blush reaches your cheeks and that's when you hide behind your hand.
"Don't hide - I'll stop, I'll stop!"
The smile splitting his face only grows.
"It's nice to see you too," you mumble, fumbling with the edge of your sleeve. "You haven't called in a while..."
"I know," he swallowed, "I've just - I've been busy."
"No, I get it," you rushed out, kicking the pebbles at your feet and fiddling with your sleeve more aggressively. You didn't mean to sound so indifferent. Of course you knew he was busy saving the world. It wasn't fair of you to feel any type of way.
You took a deep breath before forcing a smile on your face and glancing back up at him.
"So, what's up?"
Leo's face had an unreadable expression written across it. It might have been worry or grief or maybe remorse.
"I'm on guard duty while the others rest for a bit, which usually never happens. Usually I'm the one slacking off." His voice sounded fine, it wasn't shaky or quiet. He spoke in his usual buoyant tone.
"What changed?"
"A lot, actually," Leo laughed. "Percy got hurt trying to show off to Annabeth, Frank fell overboard, and Hazel was kidnapped."
