Serial Killer

Final chapter

    The sound of monitor beeping was the first thing she heard as she slowly started gaining consciousness. Her eyes squinted at the bright light in the room.         

    Adjusting to the light in the room her gaze turned towards the person sitting next to her bed. She sat up and smiled at her.

   “Helen.” Sophia said. “How do you feel my child?” Helen asked holding her hand. “So, this all wasn’t just a dream?” Sophia asked. “No my child, this was a painful reality.” Helen answered.

    There was silence for a few minutes when Sophia spoke “He’s gone.” She said and Helen gave her a confused look “Who are you talking about my child?” Helen asked.

    “He killed him, David killed Jayden. He killed the J.H. Now he’s gone forever.” Sophia said. Suddenly it hit her and she snapped her head in her direction.

   “Where is David?” She asked and Helen lowered her head. “Helen!!” Sophia said and as Helen opened her mouth to answer her, the door opened and Emma walked in followed by Jason.

     “Emma, where’s David?” Sophia asked. “How do you feel Sophia?” Jason asked. “Answer my question first!” Sophia snapped at him.

    Emma sighed and replied “He is alive.......for now.” At this Sophia gave her a confused look. “For now?” she asked.

    At this they lowered their heads. “Fine, I’ll find out myself.” She said and pulled the IV out of her hand and got of the bed. “Sophia, where are you going?” Emma asked.

    “Emma, please let me go.” She said. “No, no you can’t. You’re still weak. I can’t let you walk like this.” Emma said trying to make her sit on the bed.

    “And I can’t stay here like this Emma. He saved my life, he helped me when I needed him and now I can’t leave him alone.” She said and push past them. “Sophia.” Emma called but she rushed out without look back.

    She walked in the ICU and saw David lying on the bed near the window. She slowly walked close to his bed and heard the heart monitor beeping slowly. The oxygen mask covered his face and there was blood on the bandage over his chest.

   She took another step close to him and held his hand. Just then the doctor walked in.

   “Ms. Harvey, what are you doing here; you should be in bed.” The doctor said.

    “Doctor, how is he?” She asked worried. “He’s still critical, he’s lost a lot of blood and almost had a congestive heart failure.... he’s in coma. We can’t say when he would wake up or will even wake up.” The doctor explained and her heart sank as tears filled up in her eyes.

    Just then the door opened and Harry Liam walked. As he came closer to his bed the doctor left. “If I’m not wrong, you must be Sophia Harvey?” He asked and she nodded in response and was about to leave when he called her. “Wait, please.” Harry said.

    She stopped and turned around. He took a step towards her and hung his head low.  “I know what I have done to you. David told me about it that day.......... I just wanna apologize for that.” He said his head still hung low as his voice shivers.

      Tears filled her eyes were now flowing uncontrollably. “Please Sophia, forgive me. Maybe he wakes up when you forgive me. My son is paying of my sins and I can’t see this. Please forgive me; I don’t wanna lose my son.” He said as he fell in her feet crying.

    Sophia knelt down at his level and held a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and she gave him a weak smile and wiped a tear. “I forgave you the first time your son asked me for forgiveness.” Sophia said and she wiped her tears.

   “You have a heart of gold Sophia. Thank you so much.” Harry said and smiled.

    She looked up and saw Emma and Jason standing there. Jason nods and Emma wiped a tear and smiles.

       Three Days Later..........   

    Sophia was in her apartment and was getting ready to leave for work. As she stepped out of her apartment she saw a news paper infront of her door. She bent down and picked it.

    She puts the files on her table and walk towards the window. Looking out at the now peaceful Newyork city. The threat was now over and people lived happily.

    Walking back to her desk and picked the newspaper.

   “The serial killer case solved, World back to peace.”

    Were the headlines of the day.....

   Later that evening she stepped out of the car and walked to the ground.  As she reached the stage the crowd cheered. Cameras and reporters from across the city were to be seen. Down at the corner of the stage she saw Mr. Mckeller, Jason and Emma standing there. Emma gives her a thumbs up and smiles.

     She took a deep breath and started.

    “Good afternoon people, I hope you all the reason why we are here, to Pay a tribute to those who were taken away from us, the one’s taken away were our hero’s and we do not forget our hero’s. I’ll like to present you the wall of hero’s.”

      The crowd cheered and clapped as the cloth was pulled down from the wall which had the names craved on it.

    She smiled and looked at the sky as rain drops started falling and she felt new, she felt fresh, and after a long time she felt.............. HAPPY.
