Meredith spent the rest of the day avoiding Derek. She would see him in the hallway then abruptly turn in the opposite direction. Derek had noticed this and became worried that he done something to offend her.
The next day Derek directly asked Dr. Bailey for Meredith to be on his service. He gave the excuse of them just working well together, which wasn't a lie at all. Bailey had given him a questioning look but his dopey look was able to get her off his back.
"Dr. Shepherd, I believe I am on your service today?" She said as she walked up to him, making sure to bury her head in some papers.
Derek gave her a concerned look, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing sir." She replied dryly
"Sir?"
"It's a sign of respect. Because you're my boss." She lowered her voice and whispered angrily, "married boss."
"Meredith come on. What changed between the other night and now. Because I had a really good time, and I thought you did too, so unless you got some sort of ailment from the amount of butter you put on your popcorn, I have absolutely no idea why you are upset."
"What changed," She said as she pulled him into a supply closet, "Is yesterday, your wife came up to me and begged me not to sleep with you."
"She did what?" he responded bewilderedly.
"She point blank asked me if we were sleeping together and I of course said no. But then she asked me to please not sleep with you."
"I can't believe she did that." He said as he shook her head.
"Well I can." she was now staring at the ground
He looked up at her and raised an eyebrow.
"Because when she asked me not to sleep with you I couldn't..." Her voice trailed off as their two bodies got closer.
"Couldn't what?" Derek whispered in her ear while she was still staring at the ground.
"I couldn't say I wouldn't" she paused a bit, "sleep with you."
"Why not?" He asked as he put his fingers to her chin and lifted it so that she was looking at him.
"Because I need to." she said as she draped her arm around his neck.
"You need to?" He moved his face even closer so that the tips of their noses were just barely touching.
"I need to." Now their noses were pressing hard against each other.
Their two lips connected and it was as if nothing else in the world mattered. They pressed their entire bodies against each other and let everything else in the world slip away. Until Meredith pushed him away and Derek felt a painful sting across his cheek.
"Ow!" He exclaimed as he grabbed her hand that had recently slammed against his cheek.
"Why do you keep doing this to me?" Meredith hushly yelled.
"Do what?" Derek asked confused as he dropped her hand and started to rub his still stinging cheek.
"Ughh." Meredith groaned as she started pacing around the closet and pulling on her fingers.
"That's not a real answer."
She glared at him, "You are making me into the bad guy."
"The bad guy."
"Yes. I just kissed a married man. You made me kiss a married man."
"I didn't make you do anything."
Meredith gave an even more deadly glare.
"No. I am not going to take the blame for this. Sure, I kissed someone while I was married to someone else. That's on me, I am one hundred percent guilty of that. But I didn't do anything to you, I didn't make you do anything."
"You made me do this." She said as she pressed pointer finger into his chest accusingly.
"I did nothing to you." He said angrily, now glaring at her.
"You flirt with me, eat lunch with me, call me stunning, take me out to the movies and put your arm around me. It does something to me. It makes me stupid and make bad decisions. And then you look at me like that."
"Like what?"
"That cartoon Disney prince thing. You have the swoopy hair and the big blue twinkly eyes. And it makes me not able to think."
"Well you flirt back at me, and you come into the hospital everyday looking stunning. You don't let me think of anything but you. You make me need to spend as much time as I can looking at you, touching you, and talking to you. And when I can't spend time with you, I spend me time thinking about you. What you are doing, if you are happy or laughing, or if you are happy and laughing with some other, non-married guy. By your logic, you made me do this just as much as I made you."
They pressed their lips together once again.
"God damn it Meredith stop slapping me."
She looked at him with exhausted eyes. They kissed for a third time except neither of them pulled away. They just held each other close. They both knew that this was just adding to their problems but neither of them seemed to care. After a considerate amount of breathless time, their lips separated.
"I don't know what to do." Meredith said quietly
"Me neither." He said as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a warm hug.
