"Yang, you're with Burke, Stevens you're with Shepherd, Karev go to ortho, O'malley pit, and Grey you're with Montgomery Shepherd."
Meredith gulped, "What?"
"Do you really need me to repeat myself?" Bailey glared.
"It's just. I am not quite sure if it would be a good idea for me to work with Montgomery."
"And why is that?"
"It's just-" Meredith stumbled over her words trying to find a reasonable answer
"Look. I don't know what's going on with you and the Shepherds but I don't care. I gave you an assignment. Do it."
Meredith grumbled and went to find her attending.
She found Addison at a nurses station, "Dr. Montgomery, I am your intern today."
"Oh for god's sake." Addison glared at her.
"Do you want me to tell Bailey you want a different intern?" Meredith asked hopefully.
"No." She snapped, "because that wouldn't be professional."
They started to walk down the hall to their first patient, while walking they passed Derek walking in the opposite direction. Addison tried to make eye contact with him to express her discomfort, but he payed no attention. He was too busy mouthing 'sorry' and laughing at Meredith.
Addison stopped and spun around when Derek was out of eyesight, "Where is he living?"
"What?"
"Derek? You do know where he is living right now?"
"Um. I am not sure if I should-"
"Oh but you felt ok sleeping with him while he was married to me." Addison snapped.
"He is staying with me for a few days." Meredith conceded.
Addison scoffed, "and after?"
"He is buying a piece of land and is getting a trailer."
"A trailer?"
"Yup."
"My husband is going to live in a trailer."
"ex-husband I believe." Meredith let slip, which earned her a deadly glare.
"For now." Addison countered.
"For now?" Meredith asked.
"Look Meredith, you seem like a sweet girl. Very pretty, very nice. When you aren't sleeping with married men. But I am his wife, and we vowed to love each other for the rest of our lives. And he may be wandering off right now but eventually, he will come back."
"I understand." Meredith replied trying to get herself out of the conversation
"So once he gets bored with you-"
"Dr. Montgomery. You are my boss and I feel horrible about helping your marriage fall apart, but what Derek and I is not something he is just going to get bored of. I don't know how long we are going to last, but this isn't a fling. I love him and he loves me."
"He told you he loves you?" Addison asked with hurt in her eyes.
"I- I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told you that." Meredith replied.
"It's- he hasn't told me he loves me in- years." Addison said.
"I'm sorry. Can I just go to the pit or something? I don't think we should work together." Meredith said quietly.
"Yea." Addison grumbled.
As Meredith was going to the pit, she once again ran into Derek. This time she grabbed his arm and dragged him into an on-call room.
"I only have a few minutes so we should make it quick." Derek said while kissing her.
Meredith pushed him away. "That's not what we are doing."
"It's not?" He said disappointedly.
"No. I just had the worst conversation with your wife. Again. Because of you."
"Ex-wife" Derek corrected.
"Well, according to her, the separation is temporary."
"What?"
"Yea. Apparently, when she made the marriage vows, she meant them." Meredith growled.
"It really looked like she meant them when she was fucking my best friend."
"Derek."
"What do you want me to do?" He shrugged.
"What I want is for you to stop putting me in positions where I have horrible conversations with your wife!"
"Ex-wife." Derek corrected once again. "Look, I'll talk to her."
"And say what? 'hey stop talking to my girlfriend, even though she technically is your employee and you have to talk to her' "
"I was thinking more on the lines of, 'We are done forever and I am madly in love with my girlfriend.'"
"Ok." She quickly stepped on her tiptoes and pecked his lips, then turned and left the room.
