My name is Nova Blake Randle. My big brother is Steve Randle. I'm sure you know him. Sodapop Curtis's best friend. Steve hates being called that so I always call Sodapop Steve's best friend.
My best friend names are Raven Winston and Levi Matthews, well my girl best friends. My guy best friends are Dallas Winston and Johnny Cade.
Our gang is closer than any other. Levi and Raven got boyfriends last year and we now count them as our gang now too. Rory is the only girl in the curtis family now that there parents died so Levi Raven and I try to be there for her. Evie, Steve's girlfriend, is also considered part of our gang. Sodapops ex Sandy used to be but not anymore.
I have a little secret that I've only ever told Johnny, I really like Sodapop. I've tried telling Raven, but she used to like him before she met Andrew so I don't know how to tell her. Dally would smack me, and Levi would make fun of me so only Johnny knows.
"Nova Blake get your ass out of bed!" Steve yelled up the stairs and I groaned and hopped out. I got on my white Pink Floyd shirt and black ripped jeans with a leather jacket and black converse, then brushed my hair out. I ran downstairs and grabbed bacon off my brothers plate. "I'll be at the curtis's!" I said and ran out the door and across the street.
"Johnnycakes wake up," I said nudging his arm. "Finally!" Ponyboy said running out. "What?" Johnny and I asked in unison. "I've been trying to get Johnny to wake up!" Ponyboy said sitting next to me and Johnny on the couch.
"Winstons are here the party can start!" Raven yelled as she and Dally walked in, Two, Levi and Steve trailing behind them. "What are we doin' today?" Levi asked. "I dunno' what should we do?" I asked. "I dunno," Raven said. "Where are the other three people that live in this house?" Dally asked. "We're comin' quit gabbin," Rory said running out, Sodapop trailing behind her.
"Ok well wheres superdope?" Steve asked. "Turn around," Darry said and Steve looked at him. Darry picked him up and moved him out of the way. "All brawn no brains," Steve mumbled. "Ok but what are we gonna do?" I asked again. "We can go to dingo's or the lake," Rory suggested. "Alright that works for me," Levi said. "I second that," I said. "I third it!" Raven said and it went on like that til everyone had said something. "I'll tell Andrew," Raven said. "I'll tell Sawyer," Levi said. "And I'm gonna go change," I said walking out the door and across the street. I got my swimsuit on and coverup then ran down stairs Steve trailing behind me.
"HA I BEAT YOU," I yelled. "Shut up," He replied and we went back to the Curtis's and piled into the cars. Johnny, Ponyboy, Rory and I rode with dally. The others went with Darry. We all went to the lake and played in it until I decided to lay on the sand. I must've fallen asleep because I awoke to freezing water being poured on me. "I AM GOING TO KILL YOU," I yelled seeing it was Raven, Levi, and Dally who poured it on me. I chased them throwing sand at the three of them. "IT WAS JUST A JOKE LEAVE ME ALONE MAN," Dally yelled and we all laughed until someone dunked me under the water. "oh you are just ASKING FOR IT," I yelled coming out of the water to see Sodapop backing away slowly. I smirked evilly and jumped on him taking us both underneath the water. "You are gonna PAY for that Randle," Soda said. "YOU STARTED IT," I called running behind Johnny knowing Soda wouldn't dunk him. "You win for now Nova!" Soda called and we all laughed.
(*Time Jump*)
We spent all day on the lake until Darry wanted to start a camp fire. "Did anyone bring their guitar?" Levi asked. "I did," Darry said. "I CALL PLAYING THIS TIME," Two-Bit said. "You don't even know how," Levi said and Two huffed and we all laughed til Darry came back and handed the guitar to Soda. He hadn't played since his parents died since his dad taught him how. He hesitated but started playing. We sang camp fire songs for like an hour then roasted marshmallows. After awhile we all got tired and decided to head home. Johnny and I switched places with Raven and Two-Bit in Darry's truck so we were now in that car.
"This is the party car anyway!" Darry said. "No offense Dar, but you do know Dally is driving the other car. Right?" I asked and we all laughed. "Shut up and get in the truck bed," Darry said and I hopped in. Levi, Sodapop, Steve and I were in the truck bed while everyone else squeezed in the front. "It's freezing," I muttered to Levi. "Here take my jacket I ain't usin' it anyway," Sodapop said and I gave him a smile as he put it around me. "Thanks Soda," I smiled as he made an effort to warm me up by rubbing my arms. "Sure thing Nova," He replied with a smile. I looked over at Steve who was giving me the death stare. I sighed and nodded. This is gonna be a long summer if I have a crush on a guy who I am forbidden to date.
