Novas Pov
It's been a week since we went boating and I have a huge bruise on my leg shoulder and forehead. The one on my forehead from landing on Dally and Soda when they pulled me into the water and the other two from being flipped on the tube.
We start school in 3 days and I am dreading it. I think Sodas dreading me going back more than I am. The whole gang except Steve knows about Soda and I now.
They are all helping us hide it from Steve. Even Evies helping. Steve seems to be a little suspicious but not anything to be super concerned about yet. I've been telling Soda we need to tell him but he thinks it's a bad idea. It might be a bad idea but if he catches us we're doomed.
"Helllooo besties," I said sitting in between Dally and Johnny on the Curtis couch. "Hellooooo Nova," Johnny said. "Hey," Dally said. "Ponyboy where the hell is my- oh hey guys," Rory said walking out of her room and sitting with Dally.
They made things official middle of last week. I told Dally if he hurts her I'd kill him and he knows I'm not kidding. "Hey Rory," I said. The other three Curtis's came walking out and took a seat somewhere.
Soda moved me onto his lap and Darry shook his head. "You realize Steve could walk in at any second right?" Darry said. "I didn't really think about it but now I do," Soda said. "My kid brothers an idiot!" Rory yelled and everyone laughed. I moved off of Soda and sat on the floor next to Ponyboy.
Raven Levi Steve Two-Bit and Evie then walked in. "Evie!" I said and got up and hugged her. "Nova!" She said and hugged back. "Why don't any of us get greeting like that?" Johnny asked. "I rarely see Evie so shut your trap," I said.
"what are we gonna do today?" Two-Bit asked. "PARTAY!" Andrew and Sawyer yelled as they walked in. "I think that some of us need a girls day," Rory said. "Oh perfect where should we go?" Two-Bit said and we all laughed. "Two, a girls day means NO guys," Levi said and hit his head.
"we could go shopping?" Evie suggested. "Or manicures," Rory said. "manicures?!" Levi Raven and I all said. "Oh right maybe we should just go shopping," Rory said and we nodded in agreement.
"or you could go get lunch, and we can get stuff for our girls," Soda said smirking at me and my eyes went wide. "you don't have a girl?" Steve said. "Well I mean like our...sisters," Soda replied and I face palmed. "Oh ok," Steve said.
"I'm gonna go get a change of clothes," Steve said and walked out and I went over and hit Soda on the head after taking the newspaper Darry was reading. "You idiot!" I said. "Give me my paper!" Darry scolded so I handed it to him. "Sodapop you're gonna be the reason Steve catches you guys if you keep doing things like that!" Raven said.
"catches him doing what?" Steve said at the doorway. "Oh Shit," I said once Steve looked at me who was holding Sodas hand. I quickly let go and stood up. "What's going on here?" Steve asked.
"PARTY TIME," Two-Bit yelled and started dancing in circles. "Two-b" Steve started when Two ran into him. "Keith stop it!" Steve said and Two-Bit stopped. I gave Two a smile and he nodded and sat down.
"can someone please tell me what's going on before I lose it?" He said. "It's really not that big of a deal," Evie said. "I wanna know why my little sister and best friend were holding hands!" he said.
"because I almost broke my finger so he was uhm holding it?" I said. "Nova Blake stop lying to me," He said and I sighed. "please don't freak out," I said. "Soda and I," "Soda and you? since when has there ever been a Soda and you," Steve interrupted. "Since we started dating," I said.
"You WHAT?" he yelled and I jumped. He started walking to Soda but I stood in the way. "Go outside Steve," I said. "No! th-" "go outside!" I yelled. "and you stay here got it?" I said to Soda and he nodded. I walked outside with Steve and stood there with him.
"Steve I'm sorry I lied to you but I really like him and I-" "I don't care Nova you promised!" He shouted. "Steve it's not that damn simple!" I yelled back. "She's right Steve," I turned and saw Soda. "I said to stay inside Sodapop!" I said.
"I can't BELIEVE my sister and best friend would pull something like this!" Steve said angrily and he looked really hurt. He went up to Soda and I could tell he was gonna do something stupid so I got in the way and ended up getting punched in the face.
"STEVE!" Soda yelled and looked at the now bleeding nose I had. "It's not his fault I got in the way," I said as he examined it. "I'm sorry Nova I- I didn't mean too," Steve said. "It's fine ok everyone just stop crowding me!" I said.
By now everyone was outside. "Nova I'm sorry I hit you, but it's me or him," Steve said. "Come on Steve at least-" Johnny started. "No shut up!" Steve snapped and Johnny stepped back. "God Steve!" I said and walked over to Johnny.
"I'm serious Nova me or him," Steve said. "I-I'm sorry Soda," I said looking down at my feet. "Nova come on," Soda said taking my hands.
don't look at him Nova.
"I'm sorry Sodapop," I said and a tear fell from my eyes. "It's my fault, I should've just told him," I said. I was still looking down at my feet. "Please look at me," Soda pleaded. I kept looking down and he put his hand on my chin so I was looking at him.
He was crying too. I put my hand on his neck and hugged him tight. "Steve is this really what you want? your sister and best friend to be miserable because of you?" Evie said as Soda and I continued hugging.
"He's not my best friend," Steve said and walked inside our house across the street. I pulled away from Soda and I's hug and looked down again. I kissed him quickly and began walking away. I wanted desperately to look back at him.

I kept walking and went into my house.
