"What's wrong?" Kelsey asks me from across the living room.
"Nothing. . .," I lie. It's dumb of me to be upset about this. It's not different than most days where I rarely get to talk to him.
"You're a horrible liar, Laken," Dakota reminds me.
"Tom's just going to be really busy tomorrow. So I won't get to talk to him. And all I want for my birthday is to talk to him," I say desperately. It's pitiful, how sad it makes me. The girls get up and come sit by me for comfort.
The rest of the night is quite depressing as well. We post mates in food, and eat mostly in silence. When Chris and Sebastian get home from some work thing, I get big hugs from the both of them. As the clock struck midnight I had one thought, this is not how I hoped 19 would start off.
