Three months after graduation I moved into the pack house after Charlie's constant bothering. My parents were reluctant to let me go, But I had to remind them of my duties as Luna. They eventually let me go and made me promise to call them at least once a week. As part of my agreement to join the pack, I made Charlie agree to let my parents join the pack as well.
Nowadays I'm training to be as strong as I can be. I get up at noon, as always. I can already hear the sounds of chatter and laughter outside. Shit, I'm late again. I move as quickly as I can and take a five minute shower. I put my hair into a messy bun and shove my head through a t-shirt as fast as I can. I pull my converse on my feet and run out the door. I end up running right into Charlie. "I'm starting to think you're not taking this training seriously."
"I am! I promise I am! It's just that I can't wake up that early."
"Are you kidding me? Waking up at 8 am isn't the worst thing ever." He scoffs. "But I'll forgive you one more time because you're so cute when you sleep." He pulls me into a hug and kisses my nose.
I giggle and push him off of me, "I'll see you later!"
I jog downstairs and say hi to everyone. When I get outside, the pack has already gone out for the hunt. I guess they couldn't wait any longer. I see one person left behind and I see it is Marcus, the head of our defense team. He is the overseer of all those who patrol the border for any rogues and he most often leads the hunt to track down those who've managed to slip through.
"Marcus I'm sorry-"He puts up a hand to silence me. He has lost patience with me.
"No. Don't say anything. This is the fifth time you've been late. I don't think you are taking your Luna duties seriously." He says quietly, still trying to show some sort of respect for my title, but in all seriousness, titles mean nothing to him.
"I'm sorry; I promise I'll work harder."
"How can you work harder when you never put in any work in the first place?" He yells impatiently. "Look I'm sorry but I can't work with you if you continue to be late like this." I sink my head and go back upstairs.
When the trainees are done for the day I decide to go back to Marcus to demand a second chance. "Hey Karina, where you going?" Someone yells from behind me. I turn to see one of the newbies.
"Blake! Hey!" Something is off about his scent. There is always something off about his scent.
He catches my confusion, "I just came back from the hunt."
That still doesn't make sense but I mask my confusion quickly, "Oh ok. Do you know where Marcus is?"
"I think he's went north to tighten up security."
"What? Why?"
"Well if you had shown up on time, you would know that there was a rogue who managed to get past the border."
"Really?"
"Yeah, they say that he could be among us and that there might be a big problem."
"Well I still need to talk to Marcus." I run out before he can say anything else. Halfway there I start to get tired, I really need to start going to these training sessions. I transform into my wolf and run the rest of the way.
