Chapter 22: Taken?!

CONNOR

"What is it?" I ask, irritated that I had to leave my mate, naked and all soft in her bed, early in the morning when all I wanted to do was love her thoroughly.

"Another sighting at the local hospital," answers Yuri, with a very grim expression.

"Blyad!"

"Yes, blyad! Luna works there and she's in danger. While I was patrolling in the human side of the town yesterday night, I found this scent trail and it leads straight from the Silver Oak to the hospital," he explains.

"Shit!"

"Alpha, it would be helpful if you stop cursing and give your next orders," pipes up Yuri, not quite afraid of me at this moment. He's more level-headed at the moment than me whereas I am panicking.

My father brings out that side of me to the surface. He's one mean bastard who didn't spare his own daughter. I don't know to what lengths he'll go to take my mate from me just because she's dormant. My wolf claws inside my mind with the thought of something happening to my mate.

Fuck! My mate is in danger! I need to go get her now!

Thinking of a way to keep Catrina out of harm's way and also to clear out this issue with my father, I totally remain unaware that Cayden and Fenris have walked up behind me.

"We'll figure it out, Connor," whispers Fenris, and I shake my head.

"How? I am quite sure that it's my father who's snuck inside that hospital. I just don't want my Cat to witness my father's shallow-mind. She's only now trusting me," I whisper. The image of my mate in the hands of my father threatens my composure. His manipulations. His cold-heartedness. Catrina will crumble under all that hatred.

Raking my fingers through my hair, I try to think of a solution where I get to pounce on my father and bury him six feet under the ground and to also make sure that Catrina remains untouched in this entire event.

"Fenris, can you take Catrina with you to the school?" I ask, not able to find any other reasonable solution.

"I can take her. Christine and my beta will definitely agree," Fenris says immediately, ready to help me and then adding, "but the main problem here is not their consent but your mate's. Will she agree to come with us?"

"I'll convince her!"

"Think before you act, brother," warns Fenris making me look at him. His sparkling blue eyes always saw so much more than any of us. I understand what he's trying to tell me without speaking. 

Not let my obsessive and protective thoughts take over and ruin my future. Not let my fear of my father's cruelty ruin my one chance.

I nod in understanding, urging myself to calm down and think before forcing Catrina to not move in with me but to go away with her family to her home-town.

Goddess! Such hard choices are going to end my mating before it ever began.

I try to keep it cool. To ignore my wolf's constant growling and my own panic. Weaving through the town's traffic and not at all paying attention to the accident that has happened which led to such a traffic jam, I speed off and soon park my vehicle just outside Catrina's apartment.

Quickly entering into the building and taking the elevator to reach Catrina and just see her face, I have this feeling, as if something is seriously wrong with this whole situation. My gut's warning me, but with what, I don't know. Something's off, I am sure of that.
