CATRINA
Will Xanthos ask for ransom? Will Fenris agree or will Connor come for me?
God! Why would Connor come? I ignored him, dumbass that I am.
He was right all the time and I fought with him. I rejected him.
"I don't know. I'll just kill her. It'll kill her mate and that will hurt my dear cousin. I'll end Fenris and then kill his witch daughter as well. Sierra will be mine and her next child will be my heir to Recrania."
Xanthos's every word terrorizes me and I gasp, unfortunately, alerting the people inside. Thinking fast about it, I quickly run into the room where I woke up. The moment I touch my cot to get on it, the door to the room flies open and I turn to see my step-brother's yellow eyes glowing at me.
"Well, well, well. Lookie here! How's my sister?" he smirks, his eyes changing colour as he walks towards me.
"I am fine brother. Where are we?" I ask, trying to sound normal. If he thinks that I didn't hear anything maybe he'll spare me?
"You think, you can fool me?" he roars, his spittle flying everywhere. The room's no longer dark, I can see him with the little light that's entering the room and his face is scary. Like damn scary!
"Why are you angry, brother?" I try another tactic hoping that he'll try to be less scary. He needs to be in my good books, doesn't he?
But all my hopes are crushed when he just walks up to me, really close and growls in my face. "You little shit."
I walk in reverse, but he follows me and soon my back hits the wall, eliciting a cry from me. He chooses that moment to grab me by neck, putting enough pressure to cut off my air supply but not enough to throttle me.
"I need you alive, you bitch. You've already caused me a lot of unwanted attention. I don't need the last unmated Alpha to follow me. He's more volatile than that cousin of yours," Xanthos snarls in my face, making me cringe and I feel nauseous.
"Let her go, she's my golden egg. You promised, get done with her and give her to me." My eyes shift to look at the other man who I had forgotten was there in the room until now. His words send another trail of fear along my spine.
Where have I landed?
"What do you want her for, Lance?"
"Well, I am Dr Werewolf, aren't I? I need to see if I can make her wolf come out," he whispers, further terrorising me. The aspect of not being dormant anymore is good but the way he says it makes me think that it's going to be a lot more painful for me than I can ever imagine.
I watch Xanthos as he let's go of me and turns, as if he's also curious of this new Mr. Hyde side of this Lance guy.
"What if her wolf does come out?" Xanthos asks as if I am not present, but I am so curious myself so I don't interrupt them. I watch as Mr. Hyde/ Lance's face transforms into that of unadulterated glee, his amber eyes shining with so much malignance.
"Well, that's cherry on the cake that I've baked just for her," he says. I don't understand that phrase much.
"You know, I funded your research, yes?" asks Xanthos, quietly but with a deadly hint to it.
"Your father did. You know, you wouldn't have been able to get hold of that serum we injected into Sierra without me. I prepared it."
I don't understand this at all but it all sounds so important that I just soak it, hoping that my memory doesn't get pushed back into the darkness.
