12. Chapter

You stayed at Jacob's after Christmas, whilst the others went back to their regions; expect Faith, she joined Joseph. And well you, you didn't have a home anymore, so you didn't have another choice than to stay. Jacob had to work again, so you didn't really see him today. He did come around when you were cooking dinner, snaking his arms around your waist & whispering sweet nothings into your hair, making you blush really hard. He didn't have time for dinner either, so you brought it to his office & that's it.

You went out with the puppies, because they were way too energetic & probably would've broken something in the cabin. But it was a good opportunity to observe their nature & at least try to teach them some things. Though, it didn't last long till they were only playing around. "Ya both are more annoying than Remus & Scotty were, back when they were little."

You grumbled as Fenris was tugging your scarf harshly & Frodo was trying to climb up on you. You were sitting crossed legged on the snow-covered ground, playing with your boys. You would've taken the bear cub with you, but it was sleeping so peacefully on the coach that you didn't have the heart to wake it up; it looked so adorable. It was so strange to not have Remus & Scotty around anymore, every time you looked at the new puppies, they reminded you so much of them. A sad smile spread on your lips as you scratched Fenris soft little belly, who only let out happy squealing noises. You threw a small stick for Frodo & watched him sprint away.

You didn't notice how numb your fingers & legs felt; & how slowly snow started to fall from the grey sky. "C'mon ya two, you've played around enough for today." You said with a tried voice. A depressing feeling engulfed your mind & body, as the thoughts of your dead family became unbearable. You slung your arms around the small wolves, who tiredly snuggled into you. Gazing at them caused tears to stream like waterfalls from your eyes & you just pressed your face against them, crying softly into their still silky soft fur. "Ahh, I need to stop thinking." You hated it, to be so weak & cry so much. With small steps you made your way back to the cabin, forcing yourself to move to not completely breakdown.

After you put the boys on their sleeping cushion, you went into the kitchen to make some tea to calm your nerves & snuggled yourself in a fuzzy blanket on the big coach. You were reading one of your favourite books, getting lost in the story & your imaginations. Suddenly you felt a big rough hand against your cheek, causing you to look up & meet a pair of familiar blue eyes. "Your eyes are swollen my dear. Did ya cry again?" You only sighted in response, nuzzling your face more into Jacobs hand.

Jacob took your book out of your lab & put it on the coffee table in front of the couch. He picked you up bridal style & laid himself down with you on top of him. You changed your position, laying your head on top of his chest & one leg over his torso. One of his hand held your thigh & the other stroked your hair slowly, causing a warm feeling to spread through your body. "What's wrong?" Jacob asked in a low voice & even if his voice sounded kinda cold, you knew that he really cared. "Y'know, I promised to protect my family, even if it would cost my own life, but...But that day..." you paused to look down at your hands. "It was like I couldn't do anything, like I was too late, everything happened so fast. I feel like I broke my promise." You held back tears & just gulped down the knot that was forming in your throat.

"Listen lamb, they lived a good life with you until the very end. That deputy is an asshole, who only destroys what he thinks is dangerous. You did everything & it wasn't your fault, you are only human, you can't be everywhere at the same time & predict things. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh." He sighted heavily. "It's more important that nothin' happened to ya & that everything is going to be fine." He grabbed you by your chin so that you were facing him, smiling slightly down at you.
