NEWEST PATIENT

SOLITARY CONFINEMENT

The sign read "Moonlight Meadows Psychiatric Hospital", but I read "Prison". Maybe I did deserve to go to prison, maybe this was my lucky escape. Or maybe, it was worse. I could see the white, windowless rooms and the coldness from where I sat, chained to the metal frame inside the police car.

The cold glare didn't leave my face as I scanned the building in which I would soon reside. The building was old-looking, with the years of neglect showing throughout the high walls. Many of the windows were dirty and several of them were cracked. However, the electric fence was clearly new. It was shiny, it was taller than the trees surrounding the hospital, with barbed wire encompassing the top. Every few metres there were yellow signs warning people to keep away; not that anyone would dare go near this place unless forced.

"DANGER. ELECTRIC FENCE. KEEP OUT."

The two officers that brought me in were the biggest on the force. When they got me out of the car, they towered over me - it was meant to be an intimidation technique, but it didn't work. I have always been small, and growing up with nine older brothers meant that I was always in a fight, or having to prove myself to people bigger than me. These two meatheads would prove to be an easy fight for me, should I feel the need to.

"So boys," I said, stepping out of the car, my high heels clicking on the concrete pavement beneath me. "I guess I'm sad to leave your company, it's been fun. You should come to visit. Have brunch, you can spill gossip. I'll spill gossip."

I winked at them as I stood up from the car, a smile plastered across my lips. My short, white tennis skirt rode up a little as I stepped out. With my hands now behind my back, I used my fingertips to pull it down slightly. I chewed my blue chewing gum loudly, blowing a bubble as I stood up.

"What's so good about this place anyway? Everyone seemed so keen on sending me here. Like, I see nothing special so far." I commented, looking over the top of my sunglasses, pouting my red lips.

Once officer pushed me from behind, motioning me to go forward, away from the car I came here in. I started to walk away from the guard, shooting him a nasty glare.

"Knock it off Dwayne Johnson, I can walk myself. You know, if you weren't such a bully, your wife might have stayed with you." I rolled my eyes, his size and build didn't phase me in the slightest.

Slit their goddamn throats.

I smirked at the deep voice that rung through my head, a voice like butter. I had almost wondered where it went, it was silent the whole ride here. The voice did have a point, it would give me such a pleasure, to take their knives from their belts, hold them up to their necks and apply pressure. I wanted to slice and dice them properly. Watch the blood drain out of their body, to watch the light drain from their eyes, to watch the air slowly escape from their lungs. The thought alone had the power to bring me into complete ecstasy. But with my hands behind my back, there was no way for me to even consider doing this. So, for now, it remained in my head; in very vivid detail.

We finally reached the large, metal double doors. They were either there to keep the people in, or the outside world out, I couldn't decide what. Perhaps it was both. The guard that was in front of me took a further step forward, pressing the buzzer on the right-hand side.
