Charis watched the scene unfold in front of her, moving along with the other servants trying to keep up her ruse.

Military men littered the room...literally.

All of the bloody, beaten and bruised men either collapsed on the floor or the seats- either due to exhaustion, or they were dead.

She had hoped for the latter.

These were the same men that had either injured her friends to the point where they were shells of who they were before they embarked on their own missions, or they had brutally murdered them for land conquests.

And that's exactly what they were celebrating right now, the death of her friends and comrades.

One of the camps grounds for the Jacynth Empire, women and men doting on the soldiers or filling their bellies up.

Ares had sent her out for this mission, saying it would be the last one for a while.

The years that had passed since she had first met the ice-blue-eyed man had not been kind, though... he had been. Seeming to have adopted the two of them, Charis and Kai, life had a way to promise misfortunes for them.

Charis thought herself to be the bad luck charm that spurred all of these unfortunates on them, but Ares had vehemently shut down those conceptions she held.

Because the oppression that they faced was not anything new, it had been occurring since Ares was their age.

Other women attended to the men since this was a celebration. Scantily clad, in great contrast to what Charis and the other servants had dawned on.

They fed the men, teased them, played with them... whatever it took to make them happy.

She picked up an empty glass from the man sitting in front of her who had been waving it in her face. Swiftly bringing him another bottle of whatever poison they liked indulging themselves into forgetting the fight her people had beaten into them.

His bloody hands wrapped around the stem of the bottle, tugging slightly as the woman on his lap drew circles on his face with her finger.

Charis' honey-soaked eyes turned cold as she noticed just how much blood had stained his hands and the seemingly unharmed skin under the crimson.

Ares had not given her the entire rundown of the mission that he embarked on with Kai, she didn't know for sure what had occurred. But she was not dumb, she knew that it didn't look good for them.

The man tugged hard, pulling the bottle out of her hands. The edges of the cap scrapped down her palm, causing streaks of her own blood to trail down slowly down her wrist.

She quickly moved her hand, not wanting to risk staining the white servant's outfit with her blood.

Her jaw clenched, as the man called her names. Guzzling down the ale as he turned his attention back on the woman whose gaze flickered back to him as she looked at the blood on Charis' hands.

Charis turned around, apologizing under her breath but not meaning a single word of it. Walking back to where she would fix platters of food for anyone who would request a plate.

Muscles in her jaw clenched as she bit her tongue, as much training Ares put her through he could never seem to be able to tackle her anger.

She approached the table, breathing harshly as she fixed the already perfect arrangement of food.
