"Miss Seo still hasn't come back," Mi-Sun said, rubbing the shaved side of her head- a nervous habit she was beginning to develop. She wasn't the only one who was worried, Mun-Su was also getting antsy.
It had been twenty minutes since the electricity had turned back on, where the hell was Yi-Kyeong? Mi-Sun was afraid her injured leg may have worsened and she was stuck downstairs.
'Oh, fuck, what if she's dead,' Mun-Su shook his head, perhaps they had just missed her. He'd speak to Eun-Hyuk before assuming the worst. (All the knowledge in the world was held between him and Hye-In as far as he was concerned).
"I'm gonna go talk to Eun-Hyuk," he told Mi-Sun. "If anything happens- run and find me."
Seok-Hyeon had scuttled off to his shop so Mun-Su felt comfortable enough to leave her in the daycare.
Mi-Sun nodded, "I'll be fine, you go do your thing, bro. Be safe, okay." She knew her brother and his shenanigans, if something really had happened to Yi-Kyeong then Mun-Su would be too fired up to actually tell her what he was doing. He'd run off into the heart of darkness without a second thought.
"Always," he winked, pecking the top of her blonde head and walking towards the security room.
His fingers were crossed, 'please be here, please be here, Yi-Kyeong.'
Eun-Hyuk's back was to him when he entered the security room, watching the cameras again, his shoulders stiff and tense. Mun-Su wondered if he ever actually moved away from that spoxo
Fighting the urge to poke his back and shout 'boo!' he casually strolled in with his hands in his jean pockets. Eun-Hyuk didn't look back but Mun-Su knew that he was aware of his presence.
"Any sign of Yi-Kyeong?" He asked, peering over the slightly shorter man's shoulder. His eyes went wide, body flashing cold.
The scene on the electrical room camera was something ripped straight from a sci-fi horror movie. He wasn't even completely sure what he was seeing at first, some kind of cocoon? A huge spider-like creature scuttling around, legs just appearing in frame as it spun more webs around its victim- mummifying Yi-Kyeong in thick webbing.
Mun-Su hated spiders, even of the normal size variety, something about their spindly little legs just set off his fight or flight response. It wasn't an odd occurrence for Mi-Sun to get rid of spiders for him. Even so, he was willing to face his fear to save Yi-Kyeong. He had no idea what he'd do, but he had to do something!
"Fuck, we have to help her!" Mun-Su cried, he ran a few steps for the door but stumbled to a halt at the sound of Eun-Hyuk's calm voice.
"You can't," he said. "It's too dangerous."
Mun-Su turned to look at his neighbour in disbelief. Something in the bespectacled man's expression bothered him, he had noticed a similar look on his face earlier. Grieving, remorseful, almost guilty- but there was no hint of shock or surprise on his face, like he had accepted Yi-Kyeong's fate already. Almost like he knew it would happen.
"You... You knew about this, didn't you?" Mun-Su said, not wishing to believe the accusation. "You knew that thing was down there?"
Eun-Hyuk didn't turn to face him, he didn't respond. Silence spoke louder than any words could have. The taller man couldn't believe this.
"You fucking did!" He exclaimed, eyes widening in fury. "Why did you let her go?" 'I should have went with her, I should have insisted.' This was partly his fault. If it had been someone other than his four eyed neighbour, he wouldn't have been able to restrain himself.
"We needed the power on," Eun-Hyuk said. "Out of everyone, she had the best chance of survival." He wasn't defending himself, simply stating the facts.
"Jesus, fuck," Mun-Su whispered to himself. He knew there was something off with Eun-Hyuk when Yi-Kyeong left, but he had never imagined this. Thinking about it, why was he so shocked? Of course the ever logical Eun-Hyuk would sacrifice one for the survival of many, it wasn't because he was cruel or malicious or that he wanted to- he was just choosing the most logical path of survival.
"Dammit... I'm going down there," Mun-Su announced, marching for the door.
"No," Eun-Hyuk argued, "You can't."
"Fucking watch me!" Mun-Su challenged, daring him to stop him.
"And if you die? What do you think that'll do to Mi-Sun?"
Hackles rising, Mun-Su froze. Ice cold fury burned in his stomach, his voice was venomous when he spoke.
"Don't fucking talk to me about sisters when you don't even know where yours is."
He regretted the words as soon as they passed his lips, tasting like poison in his mouth. Eun-Hyuk bowed his head, looking down at the floor, his expression blank but Mun-Su knew better- that was an awful thing to say.
'Shit, why do I always ruin everything? Just keep your stupid dumbass mouth shut, Cho Mun-Su!'
Mun-Su sighed, throwing himself into one of the chairs at the circular table, he felt exhausted: both mentally and physically. It had been a long night and day, it felt like weeks rather than just a day.
Neither man spoke, each wallowing in their own respective feelings of guilt.
Mun-Su wiped his hand down his face, dragging his skin down before he moved his hand to the drawstring of his hoodie, he was the first to speak.
"Fuck... What are we gonna do?" He said, Eun-Hyuk had never heard him sound so hopeless. "Of course I had to tell Mi-Sun that everything would be fine but... Jesus, look where we are."
"We'll figure it out, Mun-Su," Eun-Hyuk said. "We just have to be smart."
Mun-Su huffed a small humourless laugh, but Eun-Hyuk's words had worked in comforting him slightly, "Yeah... I bruised the fuck out of my arm trying to knock down an unlocked door, I'm not exactly known for my brains."
"I know," Eun-Hyuk deadpanned, a small smirk tugged at his lips.
Mun-Su smiled, resting his head against the table, the cold surface felt soothing against his skin. "Dick," he chuckled.
