They were nearing the ground floor when Mun-Su froze, hands pawing at the pockets of his jeans. "Shit," he groaned. "I forgot my phone, will you be okay down here yourself for a minute?"
Eun-Hyuk continued passed them, the blonde gave him a small wave which he returned before disappearing into the lobby. "I'll be fine," she confirmed.
"Okay, I'll be quick!" Mun-Su began to sprint up the stairs, Mi-Sun wondered where all that energy came from. The young man could be very animated at times. Shaking her head with a small smile, she walked down the rest of the stairs into the lobby, deciding to wait outside in the fresh air. Those plans were foiled when she was met with the upset and nervous chattering of Mun-Su's neighbours, a metal shutter blocking off the main entrance.
"Dammit, I'm going to be late!" A businessman groaned, pulling at the shutter. It rattled but didn't budge and he gave up with a frustrated huff.
"My daughter hasn't come home yet," a woman, Mi-Sun knew to be the director of the building's daycare, said. Mun-Su had mentioned before that she was a snobby wannabe elitist. He found it funny that she acted so above the 'filthy commoners' yet lived in the same rundown apartment building. "Who lowered the shutters?"
"Where's the security guard?" Another woman asked.
Mi-Sun had passed the friendly guard, Mr Kim, earlier on her way to Mun-Su's apartment. The man had seemed sickly and was acting a little off. Mi-Sun put it down to his awful working conditions, poor man was overworked and way underpaid. She hoped he was okay.
She looked around the lobby, her eyes stopping on Eun-Hyuk a few feet away. "Any idea what's going on?" She asked, not really expecting him to know much but hoping anyway. She stopped in front of him, having to look up to meet the taller man's gaze.
He shook his head 'no' and as he opened his mouth to speak, he was interrupted by a feminine voice behind him, "Excuse me, do either of you have cell service?"
The woman was pretty, her brown hair pulled into a ponytail, her face held a worried look- Mi-Sun had seen her before but never had the chance to speak to her, though she'd heard she was a firefighter.
"Uh, give me a sec," Mi-Sun said, she grabbed her phone out of her pocket at the same time as Eun-Hyuk. She quickly clicked on Mun-Su's contact name. A high-pitched frequency noise began emanating from the speaker, she heard the same sound coming from Eun-Hyuk's phone.
Eun-Hyuk lowered his phone from his ear and looked at the woman with, what Mi-Sun assumed was his normal, blank look. "I guess not."
"No, sorry," Mi-Sun said, putting her phone back in her pocket with a sheepish smile. The woman looked disappointed but not all that surprised.
"What's going on here?" Eun-Hyuk asked the woman.
"Did you just come down here?"
