Epilogue - 2 Years Later:
Alessandro Prince Chavicci
My children laugh at the screen as they watch Rapunzel: L'intreccio Della Torre (or Tangled) for about the thousandth time. I'm not going to say I don't like the movie but watching it every weekend before they go to bed on Sunday night before dinner is a bit annoying. However, it's worth hearing their carefree laughs. After they go to bed, Sofia and I will get to choose a movie of our own.
I finish putting the Fregola puttanesca on their dinner plates as the end credits roll, and the twins begin to dance around the living room like maniacs. Hopefully, they'll settle down before my pregnant wife comes home. It's never fun when you get yelled at, but with my wife, it's the worst. We haven't been married long, so it doesn't happen often. Somehow that makes it worse when it does happen.
"Stefano and Caterina. Come eat dinner, please."
"Yes, dad!"
I hear their little feet stomp harshly against the floor as they run into the kitchen.
"What did I say about running in the house?"
"That we shouldn't."
"That's right, mia figlia. And what have you just done?"
[my daughter]"Run in the house. Sorry, dad."
"It's okay, just don't to do it again, yes?"
"Yes."
Nine months after Fiaro took over the Mafia and Sofia and I moved back to Laglio, Stefano Verdi Chavicci and Caterina Bari Chavicci, the twins, were born. I remember my wife being so surprised but also terribly mad at me for one, calling it, and two, getting her pregnant with twins.
But, we've loved most minutes of it though it can get kind of hectic, and the two of them can be trouble makers. I've been strictly and only working at my company, which helps people market and advertise for their businesses, for the past couple of years, and it has been the best.
I love being able to go home after a long day and be safe with my family. I love being the boss and having good work hours, so I can spend time with the people that matter most in my life. When I imagined the family life, it was never as amazing as this.
Our parents come and visit quite often, much to the joy of all of us here. It can sometimes be hard to be away from Palermo because our family and friends (besides Ettore and Basilio) are there. Ettore and Basilio, after they had their kid Alfonzo Prospero Lastra (which is Bas's last name), moved into a house about twenty minutes away from us.
When they first asked us if that would be okay, we were surprised that they would ever leave. Neither of them has a lot of family members they keep in contact with, but they have loved Palermo more than anyone else I have met.
Of course, Sofia was ecstatic upon hearing they wanted to move here, and she even helped them pick out a house. To this day, she's over at their house every Sunday night. I'm not sure what they do exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's a spa night.
I hear the front door open, and the kids go running to the door.
"What your dad said about running the house?"
"Mom!"
I hear a grunt, and instantly go sprinting to the door. Two kids hang off her arms, her protruding pregnant belly getting in the way of our kids' hugs. I take the twins away from her, reminding them that we have to be gentle with their mama because she is holding their sibling (or siblings) in her body.
