DREW
"Tell me everything, Jace" he nodded, "I boarded my plane yesterday just as class ended and went to New York as what I've always done to spend my weekend with Chloe. That same night I took her to dinner and decided to tell her how much I love her" he explained
I nodded urging him to continue, "but she said she can't return my feelings because she's been in love with her driver's son for a very long time now" I stared at him in disbelief
"Her driver's son?" I asked in incredulity
"Yeah, his name is Charlie and he's 18"
"Chloe and him had been best friends since they were young and the thing is they've been in love with each other since forever" he continued
"Of course I never heard of this before just yesterday and when she talked about this Charlie guy, her eyes would light up and her whole character changes into someone so happy... so in love. Watching the person you love talk about the person she loves who isn't you is beyond painful, it felt like the sky was frowning upon me but then she continued to explain, she didn't have to but because she's just genuinely nice she probably wanted to make it less painful for me. Did you know that Chloe was almost involved in a kidnap for ransom incident when she was younger? Of course she was supposed to be the victim but because of Charlie's heroism it didn't happen, the guy practically saved her live, how could I compete to that?" he asked as tears rimmed his eyes
"And what was more painful is that I'm the one standing in their way for them to be happy" I could hear the helplessness in his voice and even though I wanted to make it all go away there's nothing I could do
"That was why she asked me, no, she begged me to turn down the marriage proposal-" I cut him off, "I thought she turned it down?"
"She did but she doesn't really have a choice about it because her parents are the ones who decides for her that was why I have to be the one to turn it down"
"But does she realize that even if you do turn down the marriage her parents would still look for another one" I said
He nodded understanding what I meant "I told her the exact same thing but she said she just need a little more time"
"Time for what?"
"Chloe and Charlie have been trying their best to save money for elopement because obviously their relationship will not be accepted if someone knew about it. Chloe's a princess and the guy is basically her errand boy but love is love that is why she's preparing for the worst, Drew. She is well aware that if she turns down this marriage she would be disowned and right now she's still not completely prepared, that's why she needs some stalling and when they're both ready to stand up on their own she would tell her parents about her relationship with their driver's son. Of course we all know how that would end, it means she will no longer be a Moore and all the support from her parents would be cut off and she knows that, that is why she's been preparing for it. You should've seen her face, she looked so determined and I can tell no one's going to stop her. That's why I decided to step out the way" I couldn't help but frown at his statement, I am not happy to admit it but I do find it stupid.
Human stupidity really is infinite. "So you're saying you agreed to be the person to turn down the marriage causing your parents to disown you instead? That's stupid, considering you claim to love her. If you wanted her, you could've had her because both of you will end up getting married if you weren't an idiot"
He shook his head with a slightly amused smile. That just insinuated that what I told seemed so silly, "she was willing to give everything up for Charlie, Drew. She loves him and he loves her, the stupid thing to do is stand in their way. Drew, we have to admit that love doesn't give us the license to own a person, this is what love means – Sacrifice and I decided I'm going to support her, make sure she's happy. When Chloe told me about them being madly in love, I didn't hate her, the thing is I envied them both, because they found true love and one day, just one day I wish to find mine too." I shrugged, a part of me agrees with him but I still didn't understand why he wants to do something so illogical
