I was in the kitchen prepping for tonight's dinner, singing along to the music that was playing from my phone, as I focused on chopping the vegetables. I had been racking my brain for most of the day, trying to figure out what I wanted to make for this dinner, until Kyron suggested that I make our Mom's famous chicken lasagna. Of course, he was supposed to be helping me, but then Yasmine called and he basically said fuck me and this dinner.

"Seriously Kyron?!" I groaned, yelling upstairs. "Christian will be here in less than two hours and I'm doing all the cooking alone!"

"Yas, let me call you back. Yeah, Kynlee is whining at me and we have that dinner thing with our birth dad." I heard him say, as he came downstairs. "Okay, okay...I'm here. What do you need me to do?"

"Well since I'm almost done with the lasagna, the least you can do is make the salad and some sort of dessert."

"I can make banana pudding or strawberry shortcake."

"I don't care what you make, just make something!" I huffed, rolling my eyes.

"Are you nervous about this dinner?" He asked me.

"A little bit. This whole thing is just weird to me, and yet...you seem oddly calm about everything."

"I wouldn't say that I'm calm, but...I have thought about this moment for a really long time. Sure, I wasn't expecting to meet our birth father and hear two sides to the same crazy story, but at least Christian is making an effort to get to know us."

"Yeah, I guess you're right. I just feel guilty, you know? We have an amazing Dad, who has been there for us since day one, and yet...here we are trying to bond with our actual Dad. I just feel like we're choosing sides." I sighed, easing the lasagnas into the oven.

"We aren't choosing sides, Kyn, and Dad encouraged us to get to know Christian. He said he knew this day would come and he also said he knew that we'd possibly want to bond with him." He said. "Now, stop overthinking things, and go upstairs and get ready. I'll get started on the salad and the dessert." He said. I nodded, setting a timer on the stove, before heading upstairs to shower and get ready for dinner.

Nervous wasn't the word I'd use to describe how I was feeling right now, but I had no reason to be nervous. Sure, things between me and the twins started off rocky, but after telling them my side of the story...I noticed them letting their guards down a little bit. Well...Kyron has let his guard down more than Kynlee, but I figured she'd be as stubborn as Destiny is. Like mother, like daughter, I suppose.

Arriving at the address that was sent to me, I cautiously approached the front door, ringing the doorbell.

"Hey, right on time!" Kyron said, as he opened the front door. "Come on in." I stepped inside, following him into the living room. "Dinner is just about ready. Would you like something to drink? We have water, juice, and mama has some wine that we aren't allowed to touch."

"Water is fine. Thank you." I said.

"Coming right up. You can sit down and make yourself at home. I'll be right back." He headed into the kitchen, leaving me alone in the living room, as I strolled over towards the fireplace and glanced at the pictures. A few of them were of the twins and their other siblings, but the picture that really caught my attention was the one of Destiny and Wes. The two were gazing into each other's eyes, which was exactly how she used to look at me when we were married, and she was wearing a gorgeous wedding gown. Wait...she actually married him?! Wes? Off all people, she married her bodyguard? What...in the...actual...fuck!

She looked so happy. Almost as happy as she did on our wedding day, which made my heart ache, as I swallowed the lump forming in my throat.

"Here's your water." Kyron said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Thank you." I said, giving him a small smile. He headed back into the kitchen, just as I heard the front door open and close.

"Something smells amazing!" I heard Destiny say, as she walked into the living room. "Oh...Christian...hey. I completely forgot you were having dinner with the twins tonight." Something was wrong. She seemed a little off. Sad even.

"Hey Mom. We didn't expect you home for another few hours." Kynlee said, emerging from the kitchen. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah baby, everything is fine. Your Aunt Audrey was driving me crazy, per usual, so I told her that I had a headache and needed to sleep it off. I'm sure she knew I was lying, but hey...she offered to babysit your brother and sister, so that's a plus. But don't let me interrupt your evening. I'll be upstairs if you guys need me."

"Why don't you join us?" I asked her.

"Yeah mama, you should join us! Kynlee and I made your famous chicken lasagna, and I made strawberry shortcakes for dessert." Kyron said.

"Correction, I made the chicken lasagna, but I agree. You should join us." Kynlee said. She looked a little unsure, glancing at me and then at the twins, as she sighed heavily and nodded her head.

"Alright fine. Let me just go change and I'll be right back." She said, making her way upstairs. I couldn't believe it. After sixteen years, I was actually about to have a family dinner with the love of my life, and our children. I'm sure Wes won't be too happy about this, but I really don't give a fuck! I planned on doing everything I could to get my family back, but knowing Destiny...I knew she wouldn't make it easy for me. Luckily, I liked a good challenge, and Destiny was my greatest challenge thus far.
