Chapter 2

POV: Hange Zoe

I looked into his dark grey eyes as he sat down beside me.

"Yeah, thank you too... Hange," he said quietly. It was pretty quiet but I caught onto it. I smiled and thought about a future where we weren't worried about titans anymore. What would I be doing? Would Levi be there? What would he be doing? I wanted to ask him these things but I didn't want to ruin the moment so I stayed silent. We sat on the porch enjoying the quiet moment.

"Let's get going," Levi said. He stood up and we walked off to mount our horses, going back to the scouts base to get some food.

"Levi?" I said as we rode on the back of our horses.
"Hm?" He hummed in reply.
"Now that the hole in Wall Maria's blocked off what do we do?" I asked him.
"What do you mean?" He answered.
"We don't need to go on expeditions anymore. And there's no Armoured Titan or any shifters left to deal with," I said.
"After shifters are killed the curse gets moved onto someone else. Did you forget?" Levi replied.
"Of course not! But they'll be like Eren right? They won't even know, by the time they figure it out we might not even be around anymore," I laughed.
"Tch, don't say such stupid things," Levi said coldly and continued riding on.

As we arrived at the building we walked into the dining hall to grab some food to go. Then headed out the building to sit outside where we faced the green grass. It was so pretty outside, the birds chirped and the trees whispered in the wind. We sat down on an empty bench and set our food down on the table. I had some bread and soup and ate them quickly as they tasted stale and by now it tasted more like rocks than anything. We sat there silently, it was pretty awkward as I sat there watching him drink his tea. 

"So..." I said, hoping to break the tension and relieve the awkwardness. Instead Levi said,

"If you have something to say just say it, otherwise there's no point for small talk. We practically do everything together." That much was pretty true, since the Survey Corpse was always together there wasn't much news to talk about. Especially since we were both in very high ranks. 

"Yea, there isn't much to talk about... But it feels different doesn't it? Like we can finally talk about something that isn't work related," I said. "We might even get to know each other better." Levi hummed in response to that and finished his food then we both brought our trays for the ladies to wash.

I was back in my office, completing paper work. All sorts of documents and reports about the Survey Corpse. How boring, I guess I never knew how much Erwin had to do until I became the commander myself. I sighed and took another piece of paper off the stack that was piled up on my desk then started filling in the details. 

It had to have been at least a couple of hours since I got to work since the sun had almost disappeared off the horizon. I was exhausted and keeping my eyelids open was turning out to be a difficult task. It felt as if 2 sides of a magnet were attracting to each other.  There were still a few pages I needed to finish writing for the government that was due tomorrow so I continued on with my work...
