Nobody's POV-

That morning the newsies were taken to the courthouse to be tried for the rally.

Spot's POV-

"Get up!" a man yelled. I stood up and looked around. We were in a cell, and a man was outside.

"Get up! Time to go" he yelled again. I shook Ace up and we walked with the other newsboys into a courtroom.

"All rise. All rise. Court is now in session. Judge E.A. Monahan presiding." the bailiff called.

"Are any of you boys represented by counsel?" the judge said. I looked at the other boys and they all shrugged.

"No? Good, that will move things along considerably." he said again.

"Hey, yer honor, I object!" I interrupted.

"On what grounds?" the judge asked.

"On the grounds of Brooklyn, yer honor." I retorted. The newsies cracked up and I smirked.

"I fine each of you five dollars, or two weeks confinement in the House of Refuge." the judge said

"Whoa. We ain't got five bucks. We don't even got five cents. Hey, yer honor, how 'bout I roll you for it. Double or nothing?" Race said and we all laughed again.

"Alright. Move along, move along." the judge ordered. The door opens and Denton, David, and Les walk in.

"Your honor, I'll pay the fines. All of them." Denton said and walked over.

"Hey, you fellas alright? Where's Jack? Where's Tempest?" David asked.

"Look, we've got to meet at the restaurant. Everybody. We have to talk." Denton started.

"Pay the clerk. Move it along. Next" Monahan shouted. Jack was led in by the police with his hands cuffed.

"Hey fellas!" he called.

"Hey, Cowboy! Nice shiner!" Race yelled. Then the door opened again and the Delancey's walked out carrying someone.

"Tempest!" Jack yelled and tried to get to her.

"Tempest! You scabbers! Get your dirty hands off of her!" I yelled and tried to break past the iron gates. Race and Blink tried to hold me back. She was limp, her hair tousled and down. Jack and I were making such a racket the judge eventually said, "Let the boy go" The police let Jack go and he dashed over to her.

"Get off Delancey" he snapped and picked up Tempest. All the newsies went quiet and waited for Jack to pick something up.

"She's alive" he whispered and we cheered.

"Case of Jack Kelly. Inciting a riot. Assault. Resisting arrest. Case of Twilight Eventide. Escaping the refuge. Resisting Arrest." the Bailiff read again.

"Judge Monahan, I'll speak for this young man." Snyder said.

"You two know each other. Ain't that nice." Jack said.

Tempest's POV-

"Jack" I whispered.

"Tempest, you ok?" Jack said. I opened my eyes and stared up into his eyes.

"Put me down" I snarled. He almost dropped me at my ferocity and lowered me onto the ground.

"She's ok!" the newsies yelled. I grabbed my staff, which surprisingly was still with me, and steadied myself.

"Just move it along, Warden Snyder." Judge sighed.

"This boy's real name is Francis Sullivan. His mother's deceased. His father's a convict in the state penitentiary. He's an escapee from the House of Refuge where his original sentence for three months was extended to six months for disruptive behavior." Snyder said. I looked around, and all the newsies were staring, mouths open. He lied, I thought.

"You lied to me" I whispered. He stared at me and started to back away.

"You lied!" I screamed and fell to the floor.

"Tempest..." he started.

"Get away from me!" I screamed.

"Therefore, I ask that he be returned to the House of Refuge. Imagine that, lying to his 'sister' tsk" Snyder said and shook his head.

Spot's POV-

She was alright, thank the lord. Then I turned my attention back to Jack.

"This boy's real name is Francis Sullivan. His mother's deceased. His father's a convict in the state penitentiary. He's an escapee from the House of Refuge where his original sentence for three months was extended to six months for disruptive behavior." Snyder said.

"What" I mumbled.

"You lied!" Tempest yelled. I turned to look at her. She was worse than before, tears flying.

"Tempest..." he started.

"Get away from me!" She screamed again. And there was nothing we could do but watch her break down.

Tempest's POV-

I started crying on the floor and Les ran over and gave me a hug. I hugged him and continued crying.

"So ordered" the judge shouted.

"No!" Les yelled.

"What about the girl?" the Bailiff said.

"Oh, Pulitzer has something for her." Snyder sneered.

"What" I yelled and stood up.

"Pulitzer and his son are going to meet with you tonight. We pick you up at 6. If you run away, we make Sullivan's life miserable. And all the rest of the newsies." Snyder said.

"No, I can't" I whispered and looked over at Spot. He looked at me, shook his head and took off.

"Spot... wait!" I yelled and ran out of the courthouse, not before giving Snyder a death glare and a poke in that fat stomach of his.

"Spot!" I yelled and caught up to him.

"Are you going to go?" he whispered.

"You know I have to..." I hung my head.

"You can't. You can't leave me here" he yelled and started to shake me.

"I have no choice Spot. Besides, we'll always be friends. And I understand you still have Livia?" I whispered, attempting to crack a joke. He didn't smile.

"I'll try to break free. You'll do fine without me" I muttered and turned away.

"Bye" I whispered and ran away.
