chapter six : Head Girl

☆ ☆ ☆

Both Sirius and June were pacing the living room, anxiously awaiting Harry and Arthur's return. They had left pretty early this morning to the former's hearing and both Black's had yet to hear something from them.

"I'm sure he'll be fine," Ron said from where he was sitting on the couch. June glanced at him, wondering whether he wanted to comfort them or simply assure himself that everything would be fine.

Hermione didn't say anything, she simply watched the two Black's pace around, her face paler than June had ever seen.

The twins were in their room, inventing new stuff for their shop, but June knew it was simply a way to distract them. She knew they were just as anxious as she was.

Ginny was lazily petting Crookshanks who laid on her lap. Her eyes were staring off into the distance and June knew she was thinking of the hearing.

Remus, who had started to get irritated by the Blacks' pacing, had made his way to the kitchen where Molly was currently rearranging everything to help her with her stress. June hoped it worked because she sure wouldn't know where the plates were laying now.

Sirius glanced at his watch and sighed. "Shouldn't they be back by now?"

"I don't know how long hearings take," June said.

"I'm sure they'll be back shortly," Hermione said anxiously.

The two Blacks continued to pace the living room until the front door opened. They dashed towards the hall and almost collided with Harry and Arthur.

"Harry!" June exclaimed, throwing her arms around him. "How was it? Did they clear your name?"

"Yes," Harry said, beaming, as he hugged her back.

"Yes!" Sirius exclaimed, joining their hug.

"I knew it!" Ron exclaimed from behind them, punching the air. "You always get away with stuff!"

"They were bound to clear you," Hermione said, her voice filled with relief, "there was no case against you, none at all."

"Everyone seems quite relieved, though, considering you all knew I'd get off," Harry said, smiling.

Molly was wiping her face on her apron, and Fred, George — who had come down — and Ginny were doing a kind of war dance to a chant that went: "He got off, he got off, he got off, . . ."

"That's enough! Settle down!" Arthur shouted, smiling, as they made their way to the kitchen. "Listen, Sirius, Remus, Lucius Malfoy was at the Ministry —"

"What?" Sirius said sharply.

"He got off, he got off, he got off, . . ."

"Be quiet, you three! Yes, we saw him talking to Fudge on Level Nine, then they went up to Fudge's officer together. Dumbledore ought to know."
