Slowly people started pouring into the room. Beel, having dragged Belphie with him. Asmo, already having a full face of make-up and usual cheery attitude, and Levi who didn't look up from his game to acknowledge my 'good morning'.
There was one face missing that really caught my attention. Of course, Mammon wasn't here, that was somewhat expected, but Satan? That was bothersome.
Just as I began to speculate as to where he could be I heard a knock on the door that was undeniably Barbatos.
I walked through the halls adjusting my tie and straightening my clothes before opening the large doors to the butler whose lower torso was hidden by a stack of paperwork. "I believe you left something outside?" He asked stepping away to reveal Satan and Mammon shivering. "What-" I began before Satan walked past into the hall followed by Mammon whose head was stuck looking down at the ground avoiding my eyes."Sorry, I have no idea what that's all about."I apologized looking back at them as they marched towards the dining room."No need, I figured you didn't have any involvement when I saw them sitting on the doorstep complaining about not having a key."He smiled with a curt nod. "I'm here to drop off these papers, due in two days. Sadly I was unable to give them to you at an earlier date and rook some of them on myself in hopes of helping, this is probably around half." Usually this much paperwork due in two days would be no problem but I still had to deal with Mammon and apparently Satan too, not to mention the amount of other work I neglected to do yesterday and would take me at least a day of non-stop work. This on top? Well, it felt like a tiny bit of a 'fuck you'."Of course." I sighed with a smile as he handed them over."Now, I have a party to plan and you have a...Family matter to attend to." He smirked walking away.
I closed the doors before setting the papers down on a table near the entrance. I felt my rage and exhaustion build lightly, on the verge of boiling over into another thing to take care of.
"MAMMON! SATAN!" I yelled calling them to me. Soon the two came into the hallway quickly walking towards me. "I want an explanation." I glared at the two." Neither of us owes you one."Satan snapped back."As the eldest brother and brother in charge of everyone's well being I demand to know what happened." I could feel the energy around Satan begin to fester. "Why are you always parading around on some stupid high horse demanding to know everything, demanding that everyone has to answer to you?! Do you realize that we all have our own lives outside of you and your God complex?!" I growled in response to that."I don't know what's gotten into you but all I asked was where you two were, is that really so hard to answer?"
"And Mammon? Why are you so quiet? You've never been one to turn down a chance to fight." He continued to stare down at the floor quietly. "You have no reason to harass either of us. The answer is as simple as getting locked out, now leave us alone." At this point, Satan was just repeating the same thing over and over."You-"
"Satan...This is my fault, no need to get involved."Mammon's voice was quiet, somehow it caught me off guard, this wasn't... Well, it wasn't usual for him to act like this. " Look at me, I just want to know what happened, I was just worried."I saw the blonde demon look at the dark-skinned boy carefully. "You don't have to tell him...just remember that." He sighed before walking away. I didn't feel the need to protest such things as Mammon slowly looked up.
I felt my heart drop."Oh...What..."I felt myself at a loss for words as I pulled him in for a hug. His left eye was a plum-coloured purple and swelling badly. "Are you okay?" I asked in a soft voice finally pulling back from the hug. "Y-yeah, I mean, it's not that bad." He laughed avoiding my eyes."That's not what matters here...Who did this to you?" I asked as he froze in uncertainty debating whether to tell me. "Well the uh, some of the witches, y'know? They were asking for money again and I didn't have any." He rubbed the back of his fluffy head. "Who?" I asked sternly."Doesn't matter, I'm fine." He gulped lightly."It does. No one is allowed to hurt you." I frowned at his clear lack of understanding as to why it was such a problem."Who was it? Right, I think her name was Beatriz." Finally, the tan boy met my eyes.
"Satan was only looking out for me...He came to find me last night when we both got locked out...Please don't be mad at him, it's my fault." I could see the worry in his eyes as he spoke."Of course, I'm not mad at either of you. Please tell me if anything like this happens again, alright?" He smiled faintly and nodded before walking off down the hall.
I felt my anger rise.
How DARE some lowly human lay a finger on him. A vermin really thought they could hurt the great Mammon, Avatar if Greed, and get away with it? Whoever this witch was they were going to pay dearly for what they'd done. Such behaviour was not going to go unpunished, not while I was here.
I pulled out my phone immediately calling Diavolo.
"Lucifer! To what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked happily in a way that implied I hadn't just been on a call with him hours prior. "I've been made aware of some mistreatment of Mammon and I'm afraid I can't attend the meeting today at 5:30 pm. I know It's wildly inappropriate to let my personal life affect my work but I can't let such things go on any longer. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me and I sincerely apolog-" I had Diavolo's warm voice interrupt me. "No need to apologize! I completely understand, I would actually prefer you took care of this rather than go to work under such pressing matters! I'll have Barbatos take notes for you, now, please go take care of whatever it is bothering you." I felt my heart skip a beat or two hearing that. He truly was too kind. Perhaps I was foolish in how badly I wished I was able to attend the meeting. To see him again, his smile, his warm glow. I breathed out relieved. "Thank you, Diavolo." I could hear the smile on his face from the other end. "I'd do anything for you, never forget that." And with such, he hung up leaving me a flushed mess almost completely distracted from the task at hand.
But as much as talking to him made my heart pound, the thought of anyone hurting my little brother made my blood boil even more. And so, back to the matter at hand, I began to plan just how I was going to teach her a lesson...
