Sleepless nights

Slowly I opened my eyes to the dark room. My head felt surprisingly light and my eyes were for once not heavy. It was rare for me to wake up early but I suppose this was a good chance to get a head start on the day. I picked up my D.D.D. and was met with 8 missed calls from Diavolo, 3 from Barbatos and a surprising amount of 45 missed texts. Looking over the screen four numbers seemed to catch my attention 12:37.

Shit.

The first thing I did was press the call back button on Diavolo's pile of missed calls and sitting anxiously through the ringing until-

"Lucifer? Are you alright? Where are you? You're safe, right? Nobody has seen you all day and I-"The demon prince's voice sounded frantic-possibly even desperate pushing out words as fast as he could.

" Yes, I'm alright I just slept in. It seems I forgot to set my alarm and nobody woke me up this morning. I really do apologize- I promise to make it up to you."I heard a released sigh from the other side of the phone."Of course, I'm just glad you're safe, I was so worried I was just about to send Barbatos to search for you." I heard him laugh in a way that signalled his nerves hadn't yet quite calmed down. "I don't know what to say, I have no idea how to make it up to you- this hasn't happened in well...I have no idea how long it's been." My eyebrows knitted together in an unintentional way.

"Just make sure you make it on time for the meeting- it starts in 45 minutes." Right, the meeting about the date for some weird human holiday about pinching other people that Diavolo was really excited about having Solomon explain to all the students. "Of course, I will be there."

I walked through the halls at a pace that could almost be classified as running. The other students lingering in the hall watched as I rushed towards the council room at an unexpected pace for someone usually so keen on not running in the halls. I shoved lingering students aside not caring how much it damaged my pride, all that mattered was that I save face with at least Diavolo.

Random demons shouted after me with rude and profane language that I would usually write them up about. Finally, following the string on my finger, I arrived that the student council room. I quickly checked my watch, four minutes to spare.

Letting out a deep breath I pushed open the doors tiredly. "I apologize for my unprofessional behaviour- there is no excuse." I looked down at the floor while entering and heading towards my seat, next to Diavolo's. For once my 'perfect' facade had broken, revealing the shameful truth that I was not the servant that would follow Diavolo's every whim as effortlessly as lifting a feather. "My my, I haven't seen your bedhead in quite a while." I looked up just in time for the beaming Demon Prince to snap a photo of me. "Just as adorable as always, Lucifer." Diavolo's overly affectionate behaviour wasn't strange in any sense, but what was odd was that he didn't care for my lateness. "Lord Diavolo..." I searched for the right words but none came."Delete that photo."I huffed looking back down at the folder of papers needed for the meeting.

"This is compensation for being so late." He beamed happily shoving the phone back into his pocket.

"Oh so HE gets to be late-" Belphie started angrily as if he was about to go into a long rant-."When you contribute all your waking hours to work only then do you get a say."I snapped back making him quiet down, softly mumbling something to himself.

"Lucifer? Have you been overworking yourself?" Diavolo asked worriedly. "No-Well- maybe- kind of?" I saw his face fall. "Lucifer I..." Solomon sauntered into the room giving me an excuse to avoid the subject."We need to get this over with." I reminded him making him shut his mouth into a frown.

"So, that date for the human holiday-" Barbatos started off formally before the white-haired human interjected."Three days."There was a sudden pause."Hey-isn't that the day for the party?"Asmo asked eyeing everyone."Apparently so..." Barbatos said quietly. "I'd hate for all your work to go to waste-"I could tell just from those words Diavolo was going to cancel the meeting about the holiday and as much as I could care less those things brought him a lot of joy." Isn't there something we could do? Postpone the date of the party?" I asked as he shook his head no."This is right before the school festival and I don't know the next time we'll have a free weekend."His face was pure sadness."Well, we could always move the date closer, I've already finished all the preparation anyway." Barbatos suggested seeing his lord in such a depressed state.

"Are you sure? Wouldn't that be too much work?" He asks as the butler shakes his head no. Time is on his side, and for once Lucifer wishes he were Barbatos in that matter. It wasn't Lucifer's usual fashion to procrastinate on work but with everything going on with Mammon the firstborn hadn't even started on the week's worth of work.

"Well, unless anybody has any objections..." The prince looked around the room of people, including me, while no one raised their hand in opposition.

Shit

The meeting promptly ended as I rushed home, grabbing the stack of papers at the door and running up the stairs to my office as fast as possible.

I skipped dinner, ink staining by hurting hands as I fastly skimmed through everything. The night would have to be sleepless once again.
