Summary- Liam gets hurt being an idiot. Theo is furious.
Theo slammed open his truck door and all but threw himself out the driving seat. Circling quickly around to the passenger side, he carefully picked up the injured, unconcious werewolf. His tired muscles struggled a little under the weight, but he barely even noticed as he rushed through the back door into the clinic; his focus solely fixed on the terrifyingly weak thumps of Liam's heartbeat. However, even that sound was in danger of being completely drowned out by his own thundering heart, echoing loudly in his ears.
Theo breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Deaton still only packing up his things. He wasn't too late. Said vet turned around as he entered, initial confusion on his face immediately morphing into surprise, then worry. His eyes widened as he took in the sight.
"Come in. Hurry" he said quickly, and Theo didn't need to be told twice.
He laid the boy in his arms down on the examination table. Liam let out a pained groan and his eyes rolled lazily in his head. Theo kept a tight grip on his arm and watched the blacklines flow up his wrists, as he alternated between muttering angry curses and words of reassurance.
Deaton went to work, cleaning, burning and stitching. Theo had to hold Liam down as he screamed and thrashed while the vet burned the wolfsbane out of his system. The waves of pain simultaneously crashing over him, only fuelled his worry. He gritted his teeth against it, refusing to let Liam handle all of it on his own.
He couldn't believe the beta could have been so stupid. Actually no he can. The idiot had decided to go and look for the hunters himself, when the pack and Theo had warned him repeatedly not to. But of course the stubborn little wolf didn't listen. He just had to be the hero.
Liam was unconcious now, and Deaton had left with the reassurance that he would be fine, and that they could stay here as long as they liked. Theo sat in a chair next to the table and stared at the boy, as if he could will Liam to wake up.
'I should've been there' he thought, shaking his head. This shouldn't have happened. He had sworn to himself that he would protect him. Even if he didn't want to admit that to himself or Liam.
This boy who had pulled him from hell after everything he'd done, fought his own pack to keep him from being sent back there, and shattered the sword right in front of his eyes. This boy who had fought against him and alongside him so many times, who is the reason he's still here in this hellhole of a town, living in his goddamn truck. The one person who didn't look at him like he was a monster who belonged in the ground, was now lying in front of him unconcious and broken.
The worst part being that he wasn't there to stop this, and he only knew of this because he had decided to go for a late night run and had stumbled across the beta's crumpled form in the woods.
Liam had begged him no hospital, so he had rushed him to Deaton, desperately hoping the vet would still be here. He was angry. Screw that he was furious. What the fuck had Liam been thinking?! Taking on all those hunters by himself.
Liam's phone lit up with a buzz, interrupting his internal ranting, and he picked it out of the werewolf's pocket. He knew the pin of course. It was a text from Scott.
'Pack meeting tomorrow to discuss the hunter situation' it read.
Theo scoffed bitterly. Apparently Liam had decided to deal with the 'hunter situation' a little earlier.
He noticed a different screen and flicked to it. Anger and frustration bubbled in his gut, as he realised what it was.
'Hey I was wondering if you were free? I just need some help with something', the text read.
The send button lit up in the corner of the screen, and the contact name of 'grumpy chimera' seemed be taunting him; he didn't know whether to laugh or scream.
Liam had been about to text him. Why didn't he? Suddenly the body next to him stirred. He snapped his attention back to it. Liam groaned and shifted, eyes gently flickering open; the striking baby blue hit Theo like a fucking avalanche as always, the ground under him no longer felt like it was there.
"what..." Liam mumbled, squinting at him; it was not the slightest bit adorable no matter what a small part of the chimera's mind had to say on the matter. He was livid.
"T-Theo?" He blinked groggily. He turned his head towards him, not able to fully comprehend the look of absolute fury on the chimera's face.
"What's wr-"
"Shut up" Snapped Theo making a visible attempt to calm down. "What the fuck were you thinking Dunbar?!"
Liam winced at the volume and venom in his tone. He hated when Theo looked like this, especially when he looked at him like this. He cast his eyes down.
"I'm sor-"
"No!" Theo cut him off again, surprisingly unmoved by the kicked puppy look, "What were you- how-" He ran an irritated hand through his hair.
"I was trying to protect-"
"Protect who Liam? the pack? You thought you could take out a group of hunters by yourself? Do you have a death wish?!" He spat, eyes narrowed.
"You!" Liam growled, finally. "I-I was trying to protect you" He said quieter. Theo froze.
"what do you mean?" He asked carefully, raising an expectant eyebrow.
"I overheard them. The hunters weren't after the pack, they were after you" Liam said looking at him.
He had now sat up on the table with a lot of effort. A pained gasp escaped him. Theo moved closer and put a hand on the exposed skin of his upper arm, black lines immediately flowing up from Liam to his own hand. Liam's eyes were on him, and they stayed there, locked in each other's gazes for seconds, minutes, hours maybe? It didn't matter.
Beacuse then it happened. A perfectly synced, split second decision. They flew at each other, lips crashing together and perfectly moulding into each other, as if they had done this a hundred times in countless other lifetimes. The kiss exploded with passion, desperation and hunger, both boys matching each other's energy and desperation. The chimera's hand moved up to cup Liam's cheek, whose own hands were carding through Theo's hair. In short, it was utterly perfect.
After an eternity, they broke apart for air. Breathing heavily, but both grinning like idiots and faces still inches away from each other.
"You don't have to protect me little wolf" Theo said seriously.
"You would have done it for me" Liam argued back.
Theo sighed in fond exhasperation and a genuine smile lifted the corner of his mouth, making Liam grin in response, knowing the unspoken truth.
"I love you Liam" He whispered, looking into the beta's eyes.
Liam just smiled and answered by moving in for another kiss, which Theo welcomed eagerly. And what an answer it was.
