Chapter

CAL'S POV

"Soda! Get up! We're late!" I sat up groggily.

"Shit, shit, shit" Darry was running around the living room frantically trying to get dressed and get everything ready.

"Darry what's going on?" I said rubbing my eyes.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up. I forgot I have to get there early today and now I'm gonna be late. Shit, this is the third time this month. Soda, UP!!! Dammit I still have to drive Steve and Soda to work. Shit," Darry said, still running around the house.

By now Soda was up and also trying to get ready. "Darry calm down. I'll drive the guys. You just go straight to work." I offered.

"No, I don't want you to have to do that." Darry said.

"Look Darry I really don't mind. Just go. We'll be fine." I could see Darry weigh his options.

" Okay, thank you thank you thank you. I owe you one."

"You really don't, now go!" I said basically shoving him out the door.

"Wait, I forgot to make myself lunch. Shit," He said, turning back to go to the kitchen.

"I'll have Soda make something and bring it to you. Where are you working?"I said. Darry rattled off the address and ran back out the door.

"Thanks a million" he said running to his truck. I turned and headed back into the house.

"Hey, you're driving us?" Soda asked as I stepped into the kitchen.

"Yep. Darry had to go into work early." I said looking into the fridge for something to make for breakfast. I grabbed the eggs and started to make scrambled eggs.

"Sup losers," Steve said, walking into the house letting the door slam behind him.

"Hey Steve, I'm driving you guys to work." I yelled to him while making eggs.

"Hey Cal," Dal said as he walked into the kitchen. "I'm gonna walk Johnny home then go to bucks', I'll also talk to him about getting a room for you."

"Okay!" I replied cheerfully. Dal had told me about where he lived last night. I didn't really mind that he lived in a bar, as long as it was away from my dad.

"Hey can I drive?" Steve asked as we walked out to my car.

"Over my cold, dead body." I relied sweetly.

After dropping the guys off at work I drove to bucks. I walked in to see Dal at the counter talking to the same guy who had given me directions to the Curtis house.

"Hey, Cal. This is Buck," Dal said.

"Howdy," Buck greeted.

"Buck says he's got a room for you."

"Oh that's great! Can I start moving my stuff in?" I asked.

"Go for it, pretty lady," Buck replied.

"I'll show you your room." I followed Dal up some rickety stairs and into a narrow hallway. "Your room, my room, and the bathroom is down the hall," Dal said as he pointed at the doors. "I'll let you get settled."

"Okay."

Dal walked out leaving me to survey my new home. The room was small with a full bed in the middle and a nightstand on either side and a tall dresser with a mirror above it parallel to the bed. The room was grey with peeling paint and a small window but it felt cozy.
