CAL'S POV

I woke up to the sound of rain pounding on the windows. I was tangled up in Darry's arms.

He didn't leave me. He hadn't waited until I fell asleep and gone upstairs. He stayed with me. Cramped on this uncomfortable couch when he had a perfectly fine bed upstairs. He didn't leave. Everyone left. It's what they did. Why didn't he?

I shoved the painful thoughts from my head as I nuzzled into him and listened to the rain pour.

In my dream there was a fire alarm going off. Wait, not a dream. I opened my eyes and saw Ponyboy desperately jumping and slapping at the smoke detector with a dishrag.

I sat up."Ponyboy, what the hell?"

"I'm sorry I tried to make breakfast." He said, pausing his jumping.

I got up and grabbed a chair from the table. I stood on top of it and pulled the smoke detector off the ceiling and took the batteries out.

"Oh." Pony said as I jumped down and handed him the batteries and the detector.

"What were you even trying to make? " I asked as I put the chair back.

"Chocolate cake." He said, pulling a charred lump from the oven that was still smoking.

I laughed. "Chocolate cake for breakfast?" That's a new one."
"It's a Curtis household favorite."

I walked back into the kitchen. "If you say so. Hand me that bowl. I'll teach you my favorite chocolate cake recipe."

Pony and I made casual conversation while making the batter until Two-bit barged in and grabbed a beer from the fridge. "Really Two? It's ten in the morning. It's not even day drinking yet." I said, pausing my baking.

He twisted the cap right by my year. I scrunched my nose. "Hear that doll? Best sound in the world." He went into the living room and fell back into the armchair. "Superman slept on the couch?"

"Shoulda seen him. Slept right through the fire alarm."

"Eh, Superman can sleep through anything, so why's he on the couch?"

I looked back to the batter, "Oh uh, we kinda fell asleep together last night."

Two-Bit wolf-whistled, "Superman finally gettin' some action."

I blushed profusely, "Hardly, we fell asleep talking," I looked up and glared at Two "Just talking. Everything strictly PG-13."

"If you say so, but you are wearing his shirt," he said, holding his hands up.

Shit forgot about that. "He lent it to me after I spilled something on mine,"

"Sureeeeeeeee." He said drawing it out.

I rolled my eyes, "So Ponyboy read any good books lately?"

"I'm reading Gone With The Wind right now. I really like it."

"I read that in high school. It was pretty good. Ever read Pride and Prejudice?"

DARRY'S POV

"That's bullshit." I heard Cal yell from the kitchen. "Pride and Prejudice is the original "Enemies to Lovers."

I looked over and saw Two-Bit in my armchair drinking a beer.

"And Gone With The Wind isn't?" Pony asked also from the kitchen.

"Oh please, Pride and Prejudice is about a strong woman, not some petty girl who married someone out of revenge."
